This is an hotel right on the front in Oban with views out over Oban Bay, just the spot you want to be. It is situated mid-way along the promenade and there is a pleasant level walk in either direction from the hotel. There are thirteen steps form the car park to the hotel main entrance, but there is access at ground level for those with mobility difficulties.
Our room was designated superior and was just right for us: spacuious, clean, comfortable large bed and quiet at night. The bathroom was modern with an excellent shower over the bath. The quality of the towels varied from day to day.
The dining room is on the main floor at the rear of the hotel and has been nicely refurbished. It is well lit with a high ceiling and bright decor. The tables are well spaced. The food was good simple mainly British fayre with the occasional more ostentatious item at dinner for those who favour that style of food. There is a good choice. Breakfasr finishes at 9 a.m. which was a little too early for me when on holiday.
Both the lounge and the bar were comfortable with magnificent views over the bay. They have both been refurbished. There was a singer/music in the lounge for an hour or so on occasional evenings after dinner.
There is an on-going programme of refurbishment. While we were there the central heating was being updated and our windows were measured for secondary glazing.
The staff were all friendly and helpful, but occasionally the evening service in the dining room was slow.
There is much to do and see in Oban and the ferry services to the outer isles are a must. There is an airport just to the north at Connel where flights to some of the outer isles depart from, but strangely there is no air link with main centres in Scotland.
