Description: Set in a stunning location near Gylen Castle on the Isle of Kerrera, the Tea Garden and Bunkhouse is the perfect place to enjoy a nice cup of tea! We are now open 7 days a week from April to September and the menu includes delicious homemade cakes, soups, chutnies and breads with daily specials. Regular ferries depart from Gallanach Road, 1.5M south of Oban. Once on the island, you have a great opportunity to explore the natural, unspoilt beauty of Kerrera. The walk to us takes about 45mins if you choose the route on the left, about 2hrs on the western route, with fabulous views out to Mull and Lismore. Should you wish to stay longer (and we believe you will!), The Bunkhouse has beds for 7-9 people. This 2015 season, we are delighted to offer our lovely new 4m Bell Tent for hire, complete with woodburning stove, perfect for couples. Our cosy Byre is also available for evening hire, with comfy sofas and large dining table, great for group getaways. Newlyweds, Martin and Aideen Shields, will be delighted to welcome you to their wee slice of paradise! Please don't hesitate to get in touch with any enquiries. It's much appreciated if large groups (7 or more) visiting the Tea Garden call in advance to ensure we bake plenty of cake, bread and scones, thanks!

“Kerrera Tea Garden”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

My husband and I realised a long cherished dream to visit the tiny island of Kerrera just off Oban. We walked to the spectacular windblown Gylen Castle in the South of the island. We were delighted that the tea garden was open as they served us the most fantastic lentil soup followed by scrumptious lemon drizzle cake. And then a sumptuous pot of coffee.
It is worth noting that the tea garden is closed Monday and Tuesday. And you really do need some sustenance as distances on the island (all on foot) are longer than they would first appear.
But all in all, a heartwarming and delicious experience at the Tea garden, which is managed by a very nice couple. You can eat either in the garden or in a little barn. All very comfortable.

Hello Catherine and thank you for your kind words! We're really glad you had such a good time on the island and especially happy you enjoyed your Tea Garden visit. Can we just point out for anyone who may read your review and be put off coming on a Monday or Tuesday that we are open 7 days a week from Easter till September. Some of the older leaflets still in circulation may say otherwise but we'll certainly be here and hope to welcome you again!

Regards

Aideen and Martin

“An oasis after a long walk!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

There isn't a lot of choice on Kerrera for walkers, so the tea garden is a welcome sight.
Home made scones, cake etc., and tea or coffee is most welcome. If wet the bunkhouse is very handy to shelter and take your tea.

“A lovely tea room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

I ate here in the spring and loved the bothy ambience, I had the soup followed by a cake which were both delicious. Since then I have organised small group lunches through the summer - the owners have been a delight to work with and the groups have had a wonderful time. I truly recommend the Tea Garden - its a top spot on Kerrera.

“A lovely oasis on a quiet island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013 via mobile

Lunch at this tea garden was a lovely experience. We had the baked goats cheese with chilli relish - absolutely delicious. The garden was charming in the sunshine but it would be equally nice to sit in the 'bothy'.

“Freshly Made Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

I love this tea house. My husband and I took a significant trek on the island of Kerrera and were greeted by the quaint Kerrera Tea Garden and Bunkhouse at the end of our journey. Mike had the Scottish Stew and I ate the Lentil Soup.

Each soup was served with a larger than life piece of bread and butter. The soups were delicious, and the ingredients were obviously fresh. After we ate our meals, we decided to eat a slice of lemon drizzle cake...oh...get it, get it! Do not skimp on the dessert when you are visiting this place.

This restaurant comes highly recommended. Did I mention they have an extremely clean bathroom? ALWAYS a plus!
