Stayed here in September this year with my friend and 3 dogs, The owners were great in letting me bring an extra dog - he is a retired guide dog so very well behaved but still an additional 4 legs! We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom chalet - fantastic, no sharing a room!
The directions given to find the lodges were spot on, no sat nav needed.
The chalet itself was lovely and clean and warm. I did have a spot of trouble parking my car at the side of it, a narrow roadway and tight turn, I wouldn't probably take a bigger car to that particular chalet but that's just me.
The paying for electricity used concerned me to start with, but its actually very reasonable and perfectly understandable when you consider the number of people who would leave heating etc on all day while they wer out. The walking from the chalet into the forest up to the loch is wet and boggy, but great to have the space there when away with dogs.
WE had dinner in the Barn on the Saturday night and I will be going back for the food there alone! The best mussels I have had in a long long time, and the venison burger was delicious.
I will definately be going back next year, and am sorry its taken me so long to discover this gem of a place.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- One bedroom 'Outer Hebridean' chalets, two bedroom 'Inner Hebridean' lodges, Cologin Farmhouse and Cruachan Cottage are all nestled around the old farmstead at Cologin and the Barn Bar rustic bar and restaurant. Less than 3 miles from Oban with free fishing, way marked forest walks, play park and duck pond, this family owned and run self catering complex has been welcoming guests for over 35 years with many families having enjoyed holidays here for several generations. Pets are welcome and kids can be kids with plenty of space to explore and play. The lodges and chalets are all well equipped for 3 star standard, the farmhouse and Cruachan are 4 star and all properties are well maintained and decorated annually! We are not offering luxury - we are not that sort of place and never will be. You may find duck poo outside your chalet door and we don't have street lighting (great views of starry skies!) or Tarmac roads so don't come and stay if you want city style. What we do offer is good value, family friendly accommodation in a great location with easy access to Oban and a great pub and restaurant on site. You will sleep well (we are quiet and tranquil) and you will return home relaxed and refreshed. We look forward to welcoming you to Cologin. We don't feature regularly on review sites because most of our customers are return guests! ... more less
