This was our first visit to Oban (Hubbie and I). We became hungry after walking up to the tower and round the town, so came across this place.
The menu looked fantastic and the waitress was welcoming. After a few minutes we decided on the squat lobster and squid. We waited around 25 minutes for our food to come out which was a bit more time than we had hoped for.
On leaving the staff seemed annoyed at the chef and was ready for walking out.

The food itself was very tasty, and I would probably visit again if I were in the area.

We took some time to walk around Oban on a glorious day in August. The weather may have been excellent but eventually our thoughts turned to food, and since this was Oban, seafood. We looked at all the highly recommended places but by sheer chance, ended up at George street wondering what, according to the board outside, had made Rick Stein wax lyrical about the fish and chips at this eatery.

The place was empty (it was before midday) but the staff promised that they could produce an excellent seafood platter if that was what we wanted. For £16.50 we had the platter. That and 1Kg of truly excellent mussels (£11.50). By comparison, we had "Full Fruits of the Sea" for £44.00 at the Loch Fyne Restaurant & Oyster Bar the day before. The latter meal was also excellent - and included oysters, unlike the Chippy - but finding something almost comparable in a town centre place deserves comment. Problems with toxins in Shetland mussels have made it difficult to find mussels in many seafood restaurants this summer, Loch Fyne included, so we were very pleased that Oban came up trumps.

The restaurant was packed with people from many nations by the time we left. They all seemed to be enjoying the seafood, even if they had never heard of Rick Stein.

As for the quality of the 'fish and chips', haven't the foggiest. Maybe next time.

Based on the reviews on here we stopped here for lunch and were not disappointed. Probably the best fish and chips we have ever had - just wish I lived closer I would be there every week. Fantastic service and very friendly staff.
