A group of us on a cycling touring holiday stayed here for one night last week. We booked the two bedroom apartment and were delighted with the facilities. (As there were eight of us and only one toilet / shower between us it was difficult but still great value for money). Having your own lounge area was also a bonus.
The reception staff were excellent even when under pressure with so many guests arriving at the same time.
The cooked breakfast at £6 per head is very good value and the views from the restaurant window must be one of the best in Oban.
We never used the cooking facilities so cannot comment.
Overall one of the best youth hostels we have stayed in and would certainly return and happily recomend anyone to stay here.

I stayed at Oban Youth Hostel during my Scotland-Trip last June.
It's a nice place to stay for a couple of nights and the staff is really friendly. For a youth hostel it is rather clean and modern. The location is good, in walking distance from the town centre. There's a free private parking space right in front of the hostel. The view is absolutely stunning!

SYHA have spent a lot of money refurbishing this hostel to a high standard.
The hostel facilities are excellent. Reception is open all day.
When we arrived Ursula was on the front desk and she gave outstanding customer service.

These cookers have safety knobs on them for children and peeps who may be tipsy.
The unexplained operation of these cookers is ss follows.
1 Once electric supply is connected, you depress the knob and turn turn fully anticlockwise, then press ignition and hold gor 5-10 seconds and slowly release the knob then select setting for cooking.
The oven lighting is same but the real problem is temperature setting. Gas mark setting are usually 1-9 but on these ovens setting are 0-320 thete are no thermal gas setting of this type. E.G have you ever seen a recipe cook at gad mark 220? The controls on this oven are designed for electric cooker. Did they buy these ovens on e-mail from China.

THE MYSTETIOUS SHRINKING CAN OF GUINNESS

The alcohol drink menu is varied, bit it does state a 520ml can of Guinness is a pint equivelant which I thought at £2.80 not bad. I was in a state of sobriety when, said can arrived at my table. It was only a 440ml can, it had mysteriously shrunk by 80ml between the bar snd my table. I have heard of THE ANGEL SHARE in whisky production but the SYHA SHARE? I have never heard that one before!

When you arrive in Oban this Youth Hostel can give you a warm welcome. Our room was giant, the shower and bathroom were spotless and was really warm in our room and that's nice because Scotland in December gives a new meaning to the word "cold".
Price was really fair and the lovely lady at the reception talked about her experience in our home country, Italy.

I regularly use hostels and really missed this place when It was being renovated. This would be my first choice for somewhere to stay in Oban, The refurb has been first class. Great facilities and a modern, new, up to date place to stay. You can book a breakfast which is well worth the money, especially if you have a hard cycle ahead!

We just stayed overnight at the Oban youth hostel and I have to say I was really impressed. It's a recently renovated building and still has quite a 'new' feeling. We stayed in the quad room which had 2 bunk beds with one of the bottom bunks being a double. We had our own shower and loo which were conveniently separate. The hostel is only a 10 minute walk from the town centre and has stunning views over the water. Their cooked breakfasts could rival any good B & B in the area too! The service was really friendly and welcoming and we will definitely be staying there again when we're next in the area

Room Tip: Pay a little extra to get your own loo!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Oban Youth Hostel is a beautiful Victorian building. It is the only 5 Star SYHA youth hostel outside Edinburgh. The youth hostel sits on a sea front location with views over the Firth of Lorne and to the Inner Hebrides. Oban Youth Hostel offers a choice of two buildings, consisting of the original Victorian building and modern lodge to the rear, both offering excellent budget accommodation and both are available for RentaHostel. Oban Youth Hostel offers traditional multi-share accommodation and private rooms - all rooms both private and shared are en suite. As you would expect Oban Youth Hostel boasts 2 superb self-catering kitchens but meals are also available in the beautiful Raasay Dining Room. A secret gem at Oban Youth Hostel is the self-contained flat which sleeps up to 8 people and is ideal for families and small groups. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding. ... more   less
