We found this attraction very interesting. It shows how different things were back then. We spent a couple of hours here and thought it was good value. Keep your ticket if you want to visit the castle as you will get 20% off admission.

We saw Inveraray Jail in a leaflet and there was a picture of a family with a dog in the advertisement photo which drew my attention as we were with our two dogs. As we were passing through Inveraray anyway we decided we'd stop off and parked in the big car park nearby. Walking over to the jail there is a big "Dogs Welcome" sign by the door - a great thing to see!

There are a lot of steps so our older dog didn't do the whole jail but she had fun pottering around the lower levels while myself and our younger dog did more exploring. Reading about the stories of past inhabitants and seeing how the jail changed over time was fascinating. The whole site was set-up in an easy to follow manner allowing us to progress through the different stages the jail went through over it's history with a guard there to guide us the right way and he gave a very interesting talk about the prison.

Of course the exit is through the gift shop, and it turns out dogs can be as bad as kids as our youngest dog Moss bagged herself a toy ball and chain from our visit!

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable place to visit and yes, if I was in the area again I may well return for another wander around.
