Stopped in here for lunch whilst waiting on check in at local hotel. Lovely warm old rustic hotel with lots of charm ( log fires burning ) Very busy with tourists on a wet day in May. Menu had lots of choice but mainly all fish orientated with local produce which you would expect but as i am not a lover of fish only few other choices to my taste. Opted for the macaroni which was tasty enough served with garlic bread and salad.Price what you would expect and staff all friendly and helpful. Would return if in the area.

Called into this Hotel on a Saturday afternoon and it was really busy, which was a good sign. The staff found us a table quickly and were very efficient and attentive. We just had a selection of breads, oil and smoked mussels which were delicious. 2 of our group had mussels as mains which was a really hearty serving with good crunchy bread, the others had the fish and chips and the burger. All were large portions and were wholesome and very tasty All in all a terrific meal in comfortable surroundings with a roaring open log fire. Certainly worth a visit the next time you are in the area.

We stay at the George Hotel a lot, it's a favourite haunt of ours. Most recent stay was on Friday, 3rd May. We had booked Room 9, which is an amazing room with a four poster bed. There was a problem with the room and we were upgraded to the Library Room, one of their superior rooms, at no extra cost. The experience was amazing. There was a separate living room with a double jacuzzi. We had dinner in the bar area. The food was lovely, as always. Steaks were cooked perfectly and the service was great. Can't wait to go there again!

I visited the George hotel with my partner. We booked the Sunday Snug deal and stayed in room 21.

What can I say...
Building/rooms. Cosy, old charm, rustic with no frills. Exactly what you want in Inveraray. The room was rather ugly and in need of a good clean and lick of paint but in a weird way it worked. It doesn't pretend it's up market, modern high end so I didn't have a problem with it (for one night)
Atmosphere/staff
Second to none, laid back service, staff are lovely all with their unique personality and from varying parts of the globe.
Atmosphere is cosy laid back 'jeans & t-shirt' style. Dogs at the bar with their owners, kids with their parents.(Day)
At night it's moody, rustic old charm, and relaxing. We were lucky enough to have a band playing that night (not normal for a Sunday) the band were looking for a place to sleep on their tour so offered to play in exchange for a bed.
They were exceptional. (The Lottery Winners) they were funny and opted to give anyone else in the bar a chance to perform. This made our night...we had singers, Gaelic singers, and the highlight a bag pipe player who genuinely has to be the best I've heard. The night turned into a jam session with people singing their own songs etc.
This in amongst drinks flowing, good chat with guests, staff and band made this night one of a kind.

Food, I come here for the food, the best...crab, Langustines, Oysters, fish EVER! Fished fresh from the Loch daily makes anything you taste truly amazing.

To round it up, I'd say book, go with a view to relax, eat good food, meet interesting people and like me drink too much alcohol.

It's a great place to stay and I'll definitely be back.

A large group of us were staying in Inveraray over easter weekend. We ate in the George the first night and the food was very good. Not cheap but reasonable value for money and the service was very good. We also went in for a drink on the other nights we were there. 2 of the nights, they had live music. One night there was an accordian/guitar duo called rusty Nail who were excellent and competently and enthusiastically played a huge range of music styles. The place has a nice atmosphere and the other pubs in the town looked dead so it was obviously the place to be.

We spent a very relaxing night here while touring Scotland. We booked the "Sunday Snug" deal which included bed and breakfask, a generous allowance towards an evening meal plus a bottle of sparkly. Our room was in the pub. It was huge with a very large bed and a massive bathroom. It was done up appropriately with dark red walls and ceiling and huge old pieces of furniture. Because of the decor and the small size of the window it was a bit dark in the room, but that is not really a complaint. Given the size of the bathroom, the shower was small. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was fine. Staff were friendly. The hotel's website is helpful as you can view each room. The whisky shop opposite has a fine selection of malts and we were served by two entertaining and knowledgeable gentlemen. All in all we would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: This is an old building with no lift. If you are touring as we were, you may want to consider taking...
