“Lovely romantic break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for one night and what a night!

We arrived mid afternoon, you can't book in until 3pm, but we were allowed to use the leisure facilities. The changing rooms aren't the best as there are only 2 small toilet cubicles and 2 clear glass fronted showers, so you can't be shy. However, the view from the pool area was stunning. Views were out over the loch and mountains beyond. There's also a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and outdoor hot tub. This could have been a little warmer but this could have been down to how cold the weather was.

The room was lovely and comfy with a slight loch view but nothing to rave about.

The high point was the 6 course taster menu in the evening. Wow!! The food was stunning. You also have the option of choosing from the a la carte menu if any of the course options don't appeal to you, a supplement is charged but it was worth it for the best duck I have ever eaten.

All of the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also a treat. Continental, vegetarian and cooked options available, all with views of the loch if sitting in the bistro.

In inverary the George is a lovely wee bar to stop for a drink or snack, and on the way back to Glasgow be sure to stop at the Loch Fyne Oyster bar, but be warned, the small plate of mussels is huge!!

This hotel was just what we wanted, a traditional hotel with modern bedrooms, extremely comfortable and very well suited for a weekend break. Service levelswere good and the food both for dinner and breakfast was excellent. The attached swimming pool and spa was very good. We will come back

Room Tip: Ask for a loch view

As regular visitors and vacationers in Inveraray, this was a greatly anticipated two night break. We again stayed in the Loch Fyne and on a 5pm or Groupon deal. We paid extra to move one night to the Saturday and extra for kids meals as they accompanied us once again. The receptionist asked us to call back next morning and the manager was extremely helpful. When booking over the phone I asked if we could have a room with a loch view & were advised there was one left. So far so good as last visit when in the new part of the hotel, while the room was great there was no view out of the tiny dormer window.

After a good trip up, we checked in and went to room 12. We were really very disappointed at how cramped the room as when we arrived the sofa bed was out and with it being the old wing we had expected rooms to be at least as large as the new part. There was literally no space between side of sofa bed and bottom of double (stubbed toes and banged knees were order of the day for all. We had concerns over security in this part too for the following reasons;
- The hallways were overheated so much that the fire escape doors were wide open with direct access from the rear car park
- The "loch view" was only partial as it was side on looking at a gable end and the flat roof of the restaurant. The windows were old and draughty sash types unsecured and not locked on arrival. After unpacking i attempted to secure the window locks but observed these were badly bent and had likely been damaged during a previous break in.

Staying with the rooms, these were a bit dated and the adjacent stair case sounded like a small posse was charging past when in use. The toilet was also a concern - at least three flushes needed to clear waste as pressure was so low and it took at least ten minutes or more to re-fill. My wife commented that she was glad this wasn't our honeymoon or first romantic weekend or the relationship may have ended abruptly through sheer embarrassment and also not ideal with the wee ones to contend with.

The pool, sauna, jacuzzi, steam-room were all excellent but disappointingly the outdoor hot tub was cold, except for the last day when it was slightly warmer than tepid - again, even in last years snow it was really hot - enough to sit through the cold and indulge in a snowball fight. The staff here couldn't do enough to help either, whether lending me a robe when i forgot my wallet or fetching the wee fellas a spare set of goggles when he misplaced his own.

The food was excellent verging on gut busting. I won't dally but check out the menus on line, these really do taste as good as they sound. One negative from my wife is that some 14 months ago we were told that "head office" were working up a kids menu but they could provide fish/chicken goujons, pastas, burger, etc. This time it was the same story so disappointed at lack of choice and that this hadn't been attended to in the interim. Again a big plus for all the staff at all meal times, including pulling off a surprise birthday cake entry for my wife though we missed the effervescent welcome from the past head waiter, Paul - or self styled Pablo.

On return home, we spotted that we had been billed for an upgrade to the a la carte menu on the second night which we hadn't. Only an extra nine quid but annoying none the less.

This must sound really negative but the review was measured against previous visits and regular business trips. I would definitely return as Inveraray was where we were married so for that reason alone we won't stay away. However if the minor aspects are sorted and kids catered for slightly better then the Loch Fyne would have been up at an excellent again.

We cannot give it a "Very Good" but it was better than average so the score ought to read a 3.5

Room Tip: If in family group ask for a room in the new wing as we were very surprised at how cramped the room...

Wow - where do I start?

Had a fantastic break this Saturday & Sunday and can't wait to go back. We booked online for 2 nights and the price included dinner on our first night

We had a lovely attic room with a loch view and the room had huge comfy bed, flat screen TV and en-suite bathroom.

Dinner on our first night comprised of the Table t'hote menu which was priced at £32.50 per head if not on our package. We had an amuse bouche of duck followed by a choice of 3 starters, followed by a further amuse bouche (mushroom & tarragon soup - delicious) then a choice of 3 main courses and 3 sweets. We did have a cold main course served, however this was dealt with very professionally and rectified within minutes (great service).

With free use of the leisure facilities included in our stay we took full advantage and used these on both days. Having taken a walk into Inveraray on Sunday we thought about eating at the George Hotel (having dined here previously) however as we had such a lovely meal the night before we decided to dine in the Loch Fyne again and eat off their a la carte menu and we were not disappointed!

My partner had mussels to start which were a sensible portion with a gorgeous sauce of cream, white wine and shallots (mmm). He followed this with chicken and chorizo which I had the bone-in rib eye steak - this was a beautiful cut of meat and cooked to perfection. Coupled with a nice bottle of red wine a great meal was had and once again the service was second to none. I would say their desserts were a bit disappointing as I opted for lemon tart which had not set and my partner had cranachan which was too creamy but apart from that a great meal.

Breakfast was also a delight with plenty of choice on the menu and again the food was delicious - especially the pork & parsley sausages (gorgeous).

Having spare time on Sunday I treated myself to a pedicure in the Spa and this was extremely relaxing (I will be back) - thanks Charlotte.

Overall we had a fabulous weekend and can't wait to go back - special thanks should go to the Maitre 'd and his staff serving in the restaurant as nothing was any trouble - great service.

Thank you!

My daughter and I booked a one night spa break. Lovely location and hotel staff welcoming. We had a lovely meal included in the price. The restaurant could have done with more heating, The leisure facilities were adequate the spa was great. Unfortunately sleeping was another matter. We could feel every spring in the mattress my hip and elbows are still sore. We could also hear people walking in the room above. I would recommend this hotel for the food and spa but not for overnight stay

Dear Mandy, Thank you for taking the time to complete your recent review, While I am delighted that you enjoyed the food, service and the Spa during your stay, I am very disappointed to read that the mattress was so uncomfortable, The beds are replaced as a rolling refurbishment programme at Loch Fyne, however it appears that the bed in your room requires immediate action. If you could please contact me at Loch Fyne and confirm your room number, I will ensure the mattress is changed straight away. Please accept my sincere apologies.
I do hope that you will allow me the opportunity to correct our mistake in the near future.
Kind regards
Marc Gardner

Stayed with my wife for two days. Hotel has everything you would expect from 4star property, well! Apart from staff that is 5star. Everyone made me feel very welcome. Food was good. If you will decide to go please have one of their steaks. One of the best I ever had. Staff in the restaurant was frendly and profesional. Mix of spanish, polish and scottish with hungarian "Steven Seagal" like manager. Trully 5star.
