We stayed here for two one-night stays. As others have noted, decor is rather dated and the rooms could be smartened up. But food was really good and the staff went out of their way to be as friendly and helpful as possible. And having free Wifi was a real plus. So all in all we enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in Argyll Hotel during our roadtrip through Scotland and we wanted to visit Staffa. We couldn't find "affordable" accommodation in Oban on short term so we ended up in Inveraray (a small hour drive). Because we had to leave early (before breakfast was ready) the kind receptionist offered to arrange lunch-boxes. The hotel is very outdated and the wifi is really crap in some areas (in fact in one of our rooms). We complained about this and the staff responded very professional but was not able to fix... so we ended up with checking our mail in the entrance.

My boyfriend and I stayed here around end of July (2013) I got this deal from 5pm, and I thought it was a tremendous deal...

We have a room with a view ( I paid additional £10.00 for it)
bed and breakfast and a 3 course meal for 2 plus a free entry at the Inveraray Castle.

Hotel: The hotel looks a bit run-down, the interior etc, but the bar is quite cozy.
Food: I ordered the salmon, and I thought it was pretty good, especially the sauce, on the other hand, my boyfriend ordered a steak, (which we paid extra for it) he wanted it medium, but when it was served it was well done---so it was tough and full of fat.
Room: Again, it was looking old, but the view was great, overlooking the loch . The flooring was uneven. The bathroom was okay, clean but not spotless.
Breakfast: There's a good selection of fry ups, the croissant were burnt...
Service: The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially the lady at the reception.
Location: is great, the local area, shops etc. If you want peace and quiet this is a place for couples, but if you want something fancy? Go somewhere else
Overall I will give it a 3 out of 5

Room Tip: pay extra for a room with the view.

Myself and my partner stopped over at the Argyll hotel to break up our 11 hour journey to the isle of skye. Initial impressions when entering the hotel was that it was VERY dated, nothing a few new carpets and a lick of paint cant solve though. Reception staff were very polite and efficient. Our room had every appliance we needed for the night, which is always a bonus, with an excellent view! The public areas i.e. hallways did not look like they were cleaned regularly. complimentary wifi was hit and miss, would not recommend for business use. We paid extra for breakfast, we were eventually seated after waiting for 20 minutes, whilst one poor girl managed the restaurant on her own, clearing and setting tables! when we eventually got seated, we had to wait for the food trolley to re-filled! breakfast, once received was spot on though! This hotel was ideal for what we used it for, a halfway stop off point to the isle of skye, but I would not return for any longer than one night. Good value for money bed and breakfast wise.

Stayed mid July for 2 nights. Hotel staff were really friendly. Limited free parking in front of the hotel but plenty of reasonable priced ticket parking close by. Great location, we had a lovely Loch view from our room. Rooms fairly basic and quite small but clean. I'd look for an offer rather than paying full room rate here as I think you can get much better value elsewhere.
I'm sure the hotel was quite something 30 years ago but now is in such need of a renovation. Furnishings look tatty and tired, especially in communal areas and stairways.
Breakfast is good though with plenty of options and fresh buffet items being brought out regularly rather than loads of food being left to shrivel up under heat lamps.
With a bit of TLC this would be such a nice hotel, just a shame it's looking a bit unloved.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with Loch view on a higher floor if mobility isn't an issue.

We booked through Booking dot.com this delapadated hotel stuck in the 50s. The first bad impression was the dirty door step and tired conservatory. The hallway was O.K but the stairway had torn wallpaper and flaking ceiling. The room on entering was rather yellowed and depressing despite being on the seafront. The bed is a old double and the en-suite bathroom isnt even tiled but has formica type backing behind the sink. The furniture maybe Stag but is scuffed. No decoration has been done for years and years. The televison was at least 10 years old and sat in the corner of the room on the floor. There was no tea or coffee try provided. Definately NOT worth the £90 asked for the room which we did not use but they would not refund ! Bad bad bad.
This hotel makes me ashamed of Scotland.

Room Tip: Dont go there.

Stayed here 04/08/2013 for one night. The location is excellent - views over Loch Fyne, on the main road in Inverary. However, the hotel itself leaves a lot to be desired. Badly in need of redecorating, dirty walls and carpets. The mattress on the double bed wouldn't have been out of place at the nearby Inverary Jail - in fact, the jail beds were probably more comfortable. Breakfast was OK, but nothing special.
