My partner and I have been coming to this hotel at least 3 times a year for over 10 years now, and it never disappoints, particularly at Christmas.

Great award winning food, beautifully decorated period style rooms (checkout the 'Merchants Room' on their site), great pub atmosphere, live music every Friday and Saturday nights and friendly international staff.

At Christmas they go that little bit extra and have Christams tree lights covering the ceiling of the bar, with real-fires, flagstone tiles and a wide selection of whiskies and beers it's a place to completely unwind and forget your troubles.

We were a party of 6 plus a baby and we hadn't booked. I had predicted that there would be a wait for a table considering it was a very busy Sunday lunchtime, however we were seated immediately, a clean high chair was produced and our order taken. The whole experience was stress free, the food was very tasty and portion sizes good. Especially the children's portions which were very generous and the menu balanced. It was warm and cosy with several open fires and we will definitely be back.

Initially my husband & I tried to book a table the week between Xmas & Hogmanay only to be told they didn't take bookings for less than a party of 6! not impressed. After the New Year we had no problem & we had the Roast Rib of Beef for lunch one day & it was cooked to perfection & we followed that with two gorgeous sweets,Hazelnut Pavlova with blackcurrant & cream ice cream & French Chocolate Tart. On our last night of our holiday we went back for dinner, firstly we waited over an hour for the meals to arrive & it was not that busy,a couple who arrived after were served before. We ordered the Baked Chicken & the Venison, the chicken was very dried out almost as if it had been reheated & there were also bones(in a breast!) the venison was a huge disappointment to my husband, who used to shoot a lot of game,so he knows his meat as he said it was totally tasteless. The sweets (Brulee & Cheesecake) were just average. It was very such a shame as the previous meal had been of such excellent quality & the places oozes atmosphere, history & charm with the stone floors, roaring fires & lots of cozy cubby holes. Hopefully the bad meal was a one off as we will go back again in the future.

Yes it was busy but we were shown to a table and not given any indication that the food would take some considerable time to arrive. We ordered. The drinks arrived and were consumed. The waiter noted that our food had not arrived. It finally came after 30 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the bad stuff over.
The food was divine. Home made pork and leek sausage with a pork and apple terrine wrapped in bacon with mash and the scrummiest gravy ever. Delicious.
No sweet or coffee as we had run out of time and had to hit the road.
Toilets good and all on one level. Street parking only

A beautifully set restaurant with really good pub food, sourced locally! We had the Moroccan soup which warmed us up after a refreshing walk around Inverary, plus the seafood starter, followed by the Haggis, neeps and tatties, all delicious!
It was just after the New Year and was very busy, service was good too. Would definitely go back.
