“Good, not great and could be”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

We stayed for 4 nights at the Royal. Dinner at the Harbourview was average and expensive by Campbeltown standards. Breakfast was fair too and could/should have more passion for the price your paying. I hope they work out the kinks as the hotel is lovely (probably most comfortable bed in Scotland) and the staff is nice too....food could be better.

“Lovely meal, great service.”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

We decided to go into The Harbourview Grille for a drink whilst visiting Campbeltown for the day as, to be honest, the other pubs didn't look too inviting! The decor, furnishings and ambience were a pleasant surprise and all staff were smartly dressed, extremely professional and very friendly. After looking at the menu we decided to have something to eat there and it was lovely. I had chicken tenders done in a delicious sticky sauce, very tasty, and hubby had French onion soup which was also delicious. We both chose the lasagne which came with a lovely fresh salad. Would definitely dine here again if in the area.

“Royal Return!”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Only time for lunch this time round, but delicious, and warmest friendliest atmosphere, and welcomes. As aye, staff in attendance, like sister hotel, Ugadale, just such a rare treat . So nice to drop in, and treat you like old friends too ! We will return in summer season for sure.

“A step in the right direction for Campbeltown”
Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

Just what Campbeltown needs. A restaurant on the sea front with a bit of class. They were really trying hard to impress as they have been open for barely a year and are no doubt looking hopefully to the tourist season ahead. The Cullen skink was too creamy and the Cajun salmon tasteless. The ribs were tasty but fell off the bone, either overlooked or re-heated. I wouldn't wish to give anything but constructive criticism as clearly they were trying hard. I would certainly give them our custom again and support their venture wholeheartedly.

Thank you for your comments -- and for your patronage of The Harbourview Restaurant. We appreciate both your support and your recognition of the fact that we do try hard to offer our visitors the best dining experiences possible. Our valued customers come from all over the world, and while we do our best to please each and every one of them, people’s tastes do differ. What one person prefers, another may not. But we never stop trying to achieve perfection in the recipes and ingredients we use and the way our food is prepared. We will certainly discuss your feelings about the Cajun salmon, Cullen Skink and ribs with our culinary team. Hopefully these items will be more to your liking the next time you’re able to visit.

Just so you know, at The Harbourview Grille we source the very finest ingredients we can find, whether that means the freshest seafood and produce sourced locally or prime aged meats that we have flown in from Glasgow and beyond. In some cases, our commitment to quality may increase the prices of some of our menu offerings. But we think our customers deserve the very best -- and from the comments we receive, we know they appreciate the quality of the salads, starters, mains and desserts we serve. The kitchens in each of the Village at Machrihanish Dunes venues (including the one in Harbourview Grille) are state-of-the art, and our staff of highly trained chefs throughout the resort is one we’re very proud of.

In each of our venues, we strive to offer a variety of menus which we hope will include something wonderful for everyone. These include the international menu (featuring steak and fish) offered in The Royal Hotel’s two dining venues, The Harbourview Grille and The Black Sheep Pub; the fine Italian cuisine served at The Kintyre Club restaurant located in our sister hotel, The Ugadale; and the upscale pub fare (and savory Mexican-style dishes) that we offer in our Old Clubhouse Pub. Finally, at the Machrihanish Dunes Golf House, which is located by the first tee of the Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club, we offer a variety of quick breakfast and lunch choices that both golfers and non-golfers really enjoy. Each one of these restaurants is managed by our Executive Chef, a highly trained professional with many years of international experience.

This is a long response to your comment, but we hope that it will reassure you and others that we do appreciate your taking time to share your opinion -- and that we take every comment to heart.

As always, we look forward to welcoming you back soon to The Harbourview Grille.

“Out of Bounds as a Golfer's bar”
Reviewed April 30, 2013 via mobile

I along with 7 fellow golfers arrived here at 9pm to watch the last round of the US Masters, having being recommended to us by landlady, we sat under large TV and settled down to enjoy the golf. There were a group of young people finishing drinks and a meal and 1 or 2 others in bar. The 'barman' told us bar shut at 12 midnight and as golf progressed we ordered more drinks..the TV was down very low (13%) I politely asked if it could be turned up a notch or two, he did to 14%! Residents are sleeping he told us....we were certainly not being made to feel welcome... as food had stopped being served we asked if it would be OK to bring in chips...a resounding no was reply, fair enough but there's ways of saying it...we decided to sit on chairs outside however 'barman' overheard this and chained up these before chips arrived. So we stood and watched golf in window for 10 mins...we returned inside and watched as golf neared climax. At 11.25 pm 'barman' shouted last orders...at 11.33 he told us to drink up and move outside, when we asked to watch last golf hole as pub shut at 12 he threatened us with the police..a nice way to treat people who must have spent over £200 that night. This hotel is twinned with Dunes golf course where welcome next day was excellent an opportunity wasted as golf hotel.
