I was in Campbeltown yesterday afternoon (9 June 14) and visited The Harbour View bar in the Royal for a coffee and light snack. The coffee was excellent but the sandwich I chose was so disappointing. Beef with caramalised onion. Well it obviously came out of pre-packaging. Brown granary, two halves plonked on a plate with some coleslaw, salad (going brown at the edges) and crisps which were stale and anything but crisp! An all round disaster and expensive at £6.50 plus the coffee. Total bill £8.75. The surroundings were peaceful, clean and the staff were pleasant. Not their fault at all. That sandwich was tasteless and unappetising. Take note management and chef, you can do much better. Surely?

Stayed only the one night. Very smart hotel. Modernised to a very high standard. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms large, very comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom. Breakfast and evening meals were very good. Nothing really to criticise. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

This is a great hotel. Can't say enough good things about it. Rooms are superb and so clean. Very comfy beds with wonderful luxurious pillows. Staff friendly and can't do enough to help at any time of day. Food is really, really good as is the Black Sheep pub next door. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would recommend it highly. Go relax and enjoy !

Great hotel to stay in recently refurbished room which is done to a high standard with all the facilities you would need. The room was large and spacious as was the bathroom. The only thing missing is a table near a socket to plug the kettle in I had to put the tray on the floor. Breakfast was nice but the service could be better everything is self serve apart from the hot food, we had finished cereal toast and orange juice before we managed to get the staffs attention to take our order for a cooked breakfast, this was not good as we were the first people in the restaurant and during the whole breakfast not one dirty dish was cleared from our table. Please don't let this put you off as everything else was really good.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, and at the minute they are working on the outside of the hotel so there is scaff...

Since it was re-opened almost two years ago various visiting friends and I have stopped to have lunch at The Royal Hotel. On each occasion we have been most impressed with the service from the mainly young, local staff. We have also greatly appreciated the menu and the food provided. We wish The Royal continued success

This is a wonderful hotel. The whole place has been refurbished with good taste and quality materials. The pride of ownership is apparent from the front door all the way through the building. The rooms are luxurious, the beds extremely comfortable. We had all our evening meals in the bar - the food was supurb. Breakfast in the restaurant was very comprehensive with lots of delicious choices. So very happy with our stay here. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: We had a bay room overlooking the harbour, but I don't think you would get a poor quality choice...
