“Lovely hotel, beautiful location, warm and welcoming staff, breakfast a bit odd though.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Have just returned from short break in Putechan. The staff were lovely, very friendly and attentive. Bedrooms were beautiful with sensational views across the water. We ate dinner in the beautiful restaurant twice and were not disappointed. The food was just lovely and very reasonably priced. My only criticism would be breakfast which felt disorganised and ill prepared. There was no porridge, no fresh fruit and the only fruit juice on the buffet table was a CARTON of orange juice. A jug would have been far nicer. Small but important detail. On day one there was a menu (eventually) but not on day two and few of the many choices available appeared to be available on the second day. Scrambled eggs served on day one were by far the best I have ever tasted but were mediocre the next day. However, this was not enough to put us off and will definitely be back. It was all in all a fantastic stay.

Thank you very much for your review of your recent stay,

I am very glad you enjoyed both evening meals you had in our Restaurant and have passed your review onto our waiting & Kitchen staff.

Breakfast is an issue we are aware of and are trying to sort, We are currently revamping our breakfast menu and hope to be adding fresh fruit as an option, I can only apologise for the Cartons of juice being left out and not decanted into jugs, this of course we can rectify straight away.

We hope to see you again some time soon,

Many thanks

stayed here for a night as part of an online deal (another in our party booked it, not sure of details) and it wasn't a let-down! The hotel is in a beautiful location right on the water, and the rooms we were allocated each had large balconies overlooking the sea which was a lovely addition! We ate dinner and breakfast here and the food was wonderful, compliments to the chef! Would definitely return here again, in summertime this would be magical!

My wife and I recently stayed at the refurbished Putechan Hotel on the West Kintyre Coast just north of Campbelltown. The hotel has recently been refurbished and upgraded and somewhere that I would recommend to anyone looking for accommodation near Campbelltown.

The food was good although service in the mornings was very slow due to the serving staff also cooking breakfast and manning reception. I am sure that more staff are employed when the hotel is busier during the holiday season.

The hotel has a stunning location overlooking the islands of Islay, Colonsay and Giha. Just sitting watching the rollers break on the beach beside the hotel made up for the slow service each morning!

Overall the hotel is to be recommended as a place to stay although for similar rates it has stiff competition from a number of other well established hotels further north on the West Coast. Prior to the renovation the hotel had a great lounge bar which featured a large open fire. This unfortunately has been lost with the reconfiguration of the bar, leaving the bar without it's previous character.

Overall though the current owners have made a great effort to restore this great hotel and it is a great place to stay for a few days.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms facing the sea have private balconies and great views. Watch when booking on l...

Thank you for your review, It is always appreciated when guests take the time afterwards to review their time here at Putechan, I would like to apologize for slow breakfast service as we were left short staffed during your stay and had to rely on some staff members multi tasking, we have since taken on another chef in light of the issues raised during your stay and again apologize for the service you received during your stay,

My family & I have just got home from spending a lovely Christmas at The Putechan Hotel, We would like to thank the staff & especially the manager (Davie) for the exceptional care and attention they showed us. I am confined to a wheelchair, & although there were a few minor accessibility issues, these were quickly rectified. As their first wheelchair dependent client, I was particularly impressed that Andy (one of the owners) & Davie requested a meeting with me to see if there was any other changes that would have made my stay easier. There's not a lot I would change as there are many different levels of disabilities. As long as you make them aware of your needs, I'm sure they will help if it's at all possible. The best things about the hotel is it's location & especially the staff. Thanks for a great Christmas Putechan.

We stayed in a downstairs twin room for 3 nights at the end of July / start of August. The room was lovely, very clean - a few things missing but as the hotel hadn't been open long it was over looked! It was lovely to be able to see the beautiful beach as you open the curtains each morning & watching the waves crash against the rocks whilst having breakfast. The food was superb - we had one evening meal here during our stay which was by far the best meal I have ever eaten whilst out. The service provided was also brilliant. Would definitely recommend this hotel & would love to return at some point.

Just back from a lovely lunch. Great choices on the menu. Traditional Christmas turkey beautifully cooked and presented in a new modern way was just one of several dishes we had which were beautifully presented and so tasty. Service as always pleasant, efficient. The view, of course, quite splendid. Of al the local hotels, this is the best for a meal.
