I have being to the Restaurant of the Hotel Putechan
Last week with a friend of mine, we asked for a couple of things one of whom where mussels
And being told there where none as they dont sell very well and they decided to take them off the menu I thought that going in aplace and asked for two item and being told they are not available is not a good start I suggest that they should tell you straight away what is missing so tha you dont spend time looking for something who is not available , but this is just my personal opinion, this will perhaps be a good idea,
I had three kind of pork cooked very nicely one was in a pastry similar to spring rolls I liked itvery much I also had a nice sald again with pork bits very very nice shame it did not came with any vinagre or dressing but i askedforbalsamic vinagre and it was perfect
My friend had seabass served with risotto i had a taste and it was very nice,
I noticed that the restroom had no nice liquid soap and hand cream that you will expect to find in a toilet of such a nice hotel all together it was a very nice lunch with nice staff very friendly and good food just a shame for the mussel as in a place in front of the sea you expect to sit outside watching the ocean and eat perhaps a inpepata Di cozze or any other mussel recipe
Anyway well done to the owners and I will be certanly back with more friends and family

Nice room, good bed, great view, - but a few things need attention:
Breakfast was poor - streaky bacon? I expected better than that!
Also service at breakfast poor given there were only two other people in the dining area.
Cooked food was a bit cold. Otherwise the service was friendly.

Stopped for Sunday lunch which was lovely - amazed by the good value and very high quality of the kids meals - cheese and tomato pizza was a real, home made pizza!

Very friendly staff and all topped off by watching Andy Murray win a gold at the Olympics in the bar!

Will be back, hopefully to stay in the hotel next time.

We stayed at The Putechan for 5 nights in July. So impressed! The whole hotel is focused on providing great customer service - every single member of staff was friendly, helpful and professional. We had a balcony room which was spotlessly clean with a massive bed and the best views on the West Coast. The food is really special - a small but perfectly thought out fresh, local and seasonal menu, beautifully cooked and imaginatively presented (we ate at the hotel every night and the quality didn't waver). It's a long drive to get there but it's well worth it. Was tempted not to add to the great reviews they are getting and keep it a secret as we want to be able to get a room in the future...but when you find a place like this, it would be selfish not to share! Top experience, loved it.

we were invited to a wedding at the putechan hotel, there were 80 people for a sit down meal.not one of the people i spoke to did not rate the food as bloody fantastic. the chefs there are fantastic, the starter was a homemade soup ,[which i would love the recipe] . the main course i chose chicken wrapped in bacon and stuffed with haggis, which i would die for again, it was cooked to perfection, the pudding was homemade apple pie and custard,it was also lovely.the function room was huge and we were made to feel so welcome.we would like to thank our cousins for getting married there .my wife had the slow 6 hour roast beef which was so soft you hardly had to use a knife. a big thank you to all the staff for a great evening.

Room Tip: any one of the four balcony rooms

The newly refurbished Putechan is great. Our room was lovely with an extremely comfortable bed, strong shower and rugged ocean view. All the staff were friendly and the food was excellent, especially the seafood. We loved the private beach. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

We visited the Putechan for one night. The staff were warm and welcoming and the layout was excellent having been newly refurbished. The location is picturesque with amazing views of Gigha, Islay, and Jura from the hotel rooms. The restaurant and bar had a good atmosphere and the food menu had a lot to offer. I had the scallops and the rock pool and my partner had the smoked salmon terrine and the fish and chips, all of which were superb. On top of this, they had organised a band to play for the night's entertainment which was great fun and everyone enjoyed. There was also the opportunity to go surfing on the beach opposite and owned by the hotel, but were not able to due to the lack of decent surf.

There is still a bit of work going on around with more chalets being furnished at the back of the hotel, but this did not detract at all from our experience and I can only imagine that things will only improve in the future. We would both definitely go back and I can imagine that it would make an excellent venue for festive occasions and Hogmanay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Putechan Hotel is a former Duke of Argyll’s hunting lodge dating from 1872. It lies on the western edge of Kintyre facing the dramatic Atlantic Ocean with stunning views of the Isles of Islay, Jura and Gigha, together with incredible sunsets. It is surrounded by rugged grounds with an amazing pebble beach, strewn with giant rocks for our customers to enjoy. Take a walk along the beach or perhaps a BBQ while looking out for the dolphins and minke whales. The hotel, now under new ownership, has been extensively refurbished and extended, and can now offer a variety of bedrooms to suit different tastes and pockets; from the bridal suite with roll-top window bath looking out to Jura and Islay and balcony facing the ocean, our 1st floor premier rooms with balconies, ground floor doubles with sea views and a linked disabled room. We can also offer more budget accommodation in our rear facing rooms and ‘bunk rooms’. We also have a fully refurbished and extended Venue catering for a variety of events from weddings (up to 120 seated). Attached to the south wing is the sensational ‘Rock Room’ with one whole wall formed by a massive rock with French doors to the rear and front with stunning views over the ocean. The room seats around twenty and could be used for meetings, smaller intimate weddings, yoga/fitness work-outs, business meetings, or an exhibition hall for local artists. Tell us what event you want to run and we will make sure it is one to remember. The south-facing courtyard is a natural sun-trap and looks over onto the private beach. With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night. ... more   less
