“Fine dining and Whisky”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

Beautiful fine dining restaurant in a little hotel looking across Campbeltown Loch. Just out of the centre of town but well worth the couple of minutes walk. The food was exquisite, service and friendliness first class and the choice and staff knowledge of whiskies huge.

“Busy and Popular”
Reviewed June 5, 2014

Very popular with the locals. I would book a table in advance if you are coming here. They were so busy when we arrived that we ended up having dinner in the bar. (Not a problem - it is a very nice bar with an impressive selection of whiskies). It was very nice of them not to turn us away and at least offer us a table at the bar. Nice Scottish themed decor throughout. Prices are reasonable and food is standard pub grub. I was a little disappointed they weren't a bit more adventurous with their selection but due to the restaurant's popularity I guess they know what they are doing. Children are welcome and a lot of local families seem to come here. Good portions. You won't leave hungry.

“So-so restaurant - whisky bar far more interesting!”
Reviewed May 20, 2014

Came here for an evening meal one night while passing through the area. Had steak and chips with a blue cheese sauce. Steak not bad but chips were clearly mass-produced frozen chips, and the sauce was gloopy and out of a jar (suspiciously like one of those 1980's style "Colman's" packet sauces you make by adding water to the powder). Had a cheese plate to follow which disappointingly comprised only the local cheddar cheese.

Overall, bland cooking you could experience in any average hotel across the country with little flair or emphasis on local ingredients. I got the impression most of the trade is hotel residents on a captive DBB package.

We moved through to the whisky bar afterwards for a nightcap - this was a revelation. Over 450 bottles of whisky and a very fancy bar room set-up with newish furnishings, decor and lighting. Pity they haven't upgraded the restaurant to match the showcase bar.
