We spent two nights on August 10 &11. Our only regret was that we ate dinner somewhere else the first night. The dinner here on our second night was as good as any we have ever had anywhere. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Service was awesome. Having a drink outside looking over the harbor is as good as it gets. We will be back.

We spent 3 nights at Craigard House Hotel. It was a total escape from our usual very busy life - quiet and relaxed! The food was very enjoyable with a wide enough range for even the fussiest of eaters. Service was superb and friendly. We would definitely visit again. Beannie deserves lots of fussing - makes you smile - you can't help but smile as he demands his attention.

We are very grateful for your positive review. We try to offer a wide range of choices for dinner - from local Seafood and Shellfish, through succulent local meats, cheese and game, to a selection of at least six options for vegetarians. Breakfast also has plenty of choice from fresh fruits to locally Smoked Salmon, via the humungous Full Scottish! Beanie thanks you for the cuddles! She is getting plenty of walks lately - as you know, she offers a Free Guest Walking Service! Hope to see you another time soon.

The approach to the hotel was up a tarmac drive full of potholes. On entering the car park we were met by a broken down car, an old caravan and an old boat, none of which would semed to have moved for a very long time. Walking down to the front door we passed piles of discarded empty wine bottles and noticed the back door glass had obviously been broken and was temporarily (or perhaps permanently) shored up with hardboard. All of this gave us an immediate impression of a very tired hotel. On entering the property the owner was pleasant enough but the smell of dogs was not. We had booked the best room in the hotel (room 4) with a bay window overlooking the bay. The room was beautifully positioned and spacious with a 4 poster bed and a lounge suite and dining room table. It was a pity the curtain track was broken preventing the curtains from being fully closed ( not repaired during our stay), the skirting boards had cobwebs attached and the shower flooded.

The evening meal was very good and the waitresses very pleasant. Breakfast was good if reheated and with only one member of staff, cooking, taking orders, serving and checking guests out, the service was slow. The dining room and lounge were pleasant enough. The bill was overcharged but corrected when the mistake was pointed out.

At £135 per night for bed and breakfast it was not good value for money and we would have liked to see the place tidied up. We have subsequently found much better accommodation for our return visit in 2013 the Campbeltown.

We are sorry that on this occasion we were not able to come up to your expectations, although we are pleased that you enjoyed the food. Surely it is not unusual for the grounds of a seaside property to contain a yacht - or a caravan for that matter! We hope you enjoy your visit to Campbeltown next time.

We thank you for your kind review. We are glad you found Craigard House to have a friendly atmosphere. This is something that seems to work well, as we always have a number of return guests. Sometimes it is not the fabric of the building that is the most important thing, but the ambience and willingness of the staff to ensure that your stay is enjoyable. That is the important thing. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again.

On a recent trip to the lovely Kintyre Peninsula we visited Campbeltown and had dinner in the Craigard House Hotel. A lovely selection of locally caught seafood was on the menu and I've got to say it was one of the nicest meals we've had in a long while. The service was good and we didn't have to wait too long, although waiting would have been a pleasure as the view from the dining room marvellous overlooking Campeltown Loch. One little comment I would like to include in this review is, that when leaving the hotel a member of staff discreetly informed us that the tip we had left on the table would not in fact be given to the staff but would instead be retained by the proprietors of the hotel, which I thought was a bit underhand. So if you go there I would suggest that you discreetly tip the person who serves you and hope that they share it around.

Many thanks for this review. We are delighted you enjoyed your meal and found the restaurant views to be attractive. Regarding your final comment, I can only conclude that this was a very new member of staff. As is usual in a hotel setting, all tips are accumulated in a 'tronc' which is then regularly distributed to benefit all hotel staff - but certainly not owners. Should you visit Campbeltown again, we hope to welcome you once more.

Stayed at the Craigard for a few nights over a two week period. Very comfortable hotel where the owners and staff go out of their way look after you like a guest should be looked after. Extremely comfortable beds, good food, good value for money...all in all one of the best independent hotels I have stayed in, in Scotland.

This is a gem of a place. We stayed here with our dog for two nights and we couldn't have been made more welcome. The hotel has a wonderful history, and the owners are passionate about their home. The room and bed were very comfortable, clean, and well appointed with lots of little extras that make a hotel stay a pleasure. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and the portion sizes were very generous.
All in all it's a hotel that we will be very happy to return to.

Thank you very much for your kind words - they are very much appreciated. We are, of course, dog friendly - as our own dog Beanie is the canine member of our team, and she welcomes other friends! The lots of little extras you mention are those things that we would like to see and use in hotels we visit, such as Free WiFi in all rooms and public areas; Freesat and Sky TV; bath and shower in all rooms; Neutrogena toiletries; huge fluffy towels; bathrobes; comprehensive welcome tray with mineral waters, tea/coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits etc. Food is also very important and we are delighted you enjoyed your breakfast and dinner in our Lochside Restaurant. Hopefully we will see you another time.
