We took the combined distillery tour (Springbank and Glen Gyle) couple with a Taste It session afterwards. Our tour was taken by Jim who was so knowledgeable and gentle in his approach - a great credit to the company. The whole process was explained clearly including the famous 2 and a half distillations! The contrast of the old and the new distilleries was interesting and is already showing differences in the final product, more of which later.
After around 80 mins doing the tours it was back to Cadenhead's whisky shop in the town centre for our tasting with Grant and what a revelation it was to taste his manager's selection of 6 malts (including a not quite ready 9 year old Kilkerran from Glen Gyle but showing lots of promise) . We all learned so much and although I was already a fan my 3 companions became so too such was the charm of the folk at Springbank and the real quality of the product. After an enjoyable browse in the shop at the huge selection of diverse and historic malts including even a rare Canadian whiskey much to the surprise of our Canadian friends, we stocked up for the journey home. Armed with bottles of our favourite tipples (all different but all made by Springbank) we reluctantly took our leave of the shop. Lovely people, fabulous whisky!
