Owner description: Springbank Distillery is one of the main visitor attractions in Campbeltown, Kintyre. It is one of three distilleries remaining in Campbeltown which, in the 19th century, was classed as 'The Whisky Capital of the World'. Established in 1828, Springbank is the oldest independent family owned distillery in Scotland and is the only distillery in Scotland to carry out the full production process on one site - from the traditional floor maltings through to the bottling.

Having visited about 20 distilleries in Scotland, This has to stand head and shoulders above ALL the rest, small traditional, family owned, original .
You get to see it all here, no fancy frills, just a tour of Scotlands only fully working distillery.
They malt their own barley on malt floors, distill 3 whiskies, and bottle on site..THE ONLY DISTILLERY, from the victorian era to still do this!
Beware imitations this is the real thing.
Then a trip to the tasting room, for a small taste, all for £6:50
I want to go back tomorrow....

One of the best tours of a distillery that we have been on, from start to finish. Our tour guide George was fantastic; he was well informed, enthusiastic and friendly. It was also good to tour one of the few distilleries that do their own malting.

Our tour was helped by the fact that we were the only two on it, early season and a Monday morning! We felt privileged to have such a personal experience, with the ability to ask questions and take pictures as we wished. And there were no restrictions on picture taking which can happen on some distillery tours.

We took the tour that offered visits to both Springbank and Glengyle. Well worth it, even just to see differences between the two working distilleries.

Warm yourself up in the shop at the end with a wee tasting.............come back with a bottle or two!

And interestingly enough there are one week courses for whisky enthusiasts out there!

I have , like many of you toured many distilleries, and NEVER before did I understand how, just really how whiskey was made. Thank you Jim, I have no doubts now how this water of life from Scotlands only family run distillery, becomes the finest of drinks .
Our tour was so good, so interesting, and Jim just shared his real passion for the place, and his place with you, that it was infectious! Go to Campbeltown, and don't forget to visit the shop after your tpur, well worth the warmth, and of course the tasting afterwards !
