“January stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2014

Stayed for one night on business. Check in fine and poilte as usual.
Room overlooking the golf course. Room clean and bed very comfortable. Pillows great.
Only downside was that I ordered room service and it took an hour. The soup came without the crusty roll on the menu. Also I ordered diet coke and got full fat. Meal was tasty although not very hot.
Waiter who brought the meal did say sorry for the delay.
Slept well and breakfast room service only five minutes late and was very nice.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel, and we had a truly wonderful time. We arranged this trip to celebrate my birthday. We stayed in a Junior Suite. Our suite was spotless, spacious, comfortable and very relaxing. We had a balcony which overlooked the golf course, but also had a bit of a view of the sea too, which was lovely. We have stayed in so called 'suites' before, where the lounge area is nothing more than a cupboard sized room with a sofa in it, but the lounge area in our junior suite was really impressive.
There really is nothing negative I could say about this hotel. The room was great, I had the best sleep I've had in a while. The hotel itself is lovely, the breakfast was amazing, staff were great. My only comment, and it is a comment, not a criticism, is that I personally like to be greeted by reception staff with a 'good morning' or something similar each time I pass them by, and I didn't get that 'made to feel special' feeling that I have had at other 4 or 5 star hotels I have stayed in. Having said this, the staff were completely polite and professional when I had to ask for anything so as I said, this is more a comment rather than a criticism. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and would definitely recommend it and will very likely stay here again at some time.

Check-in efficient.
Hotel in good area for walking.
Bar a let-down for a "bespoke" hotel, two tv screens on in afternoon & again on night-time, & showing football. Not everyone likes listening to this when paying £6 - £6.20 a glass for wine. OK in a town centre sports bar, but for a "bespoke" 4 star hotel???
Yes, our bathroom did require a revamp, as stated in other reviews, mouldy sealant around bath. What we did not like was being given a disabled type bathroom (without being requested). When brought this to attention of reception, only received "sorry", not, "would you like to change rooms".
Dinner was well presented, however I made the mistake of going for the rib-eye at £8.95 supplement. Wish I had not bothered.
Breakfast excellent, served by well-trained efficient staff.
Bottom line, we did enjoy our stay & would stay again with similar package, as the weekend as excellent value for money.

I have been staying at the Carnoustie Golf Resort Hotel and Spa a couple of nights a week for a month or so now. The rooms are all fairly similar, are usually clean (though I have seen a few mouldy ceilings in bathrooms), very comfortable and quiet - I sleep very well here and it is restful. The Hotel is over 20 years old now and probably due it's first major refit - as said some of the bathrooms are tired with worn or damaged shower controls etc. but all still work. However the communal areas (stairs, corridors etc.) are quite grubby. There is a gym which is actually a large exercise room but has some up to date equipment. The big disappointment here is the bar food - it's expensive and very basic and bland - I have not tried the restauraunt. Tonight I had Leek and Potato soup which cost £4 and was very bland and worse than any packet soup I have ever had. Main course was Chilli Con Carne which was almost on a par (quality and quantity) with a 99p supermarket value frozen meal.

It's very telling just how many of the guests walk into town to eat or get food delivered from takeaways. The lifts always smell of curry...

That said though even though it is a little tired the rooms are very comfortable, quiet and ideal for a good night's sleep - I have stayed in much worse places in this region. So I will keep coming, but via the supermarket...

Room Tip: All the rooms are similar, but some have balconies with views over the golf course. Ask for rooms at...

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights just before Christmas with my partner and our 8 year old son.

On arrival the receptionist was very polite and full of information. We stayed in a room on the second floor which looked out over the water and part of the golf course. The room was a great size with 2 double beds, a separate small area for sitting and plenty of space for all our clothes and toys our son had brought.

We ate dinner in the bar / lounge area on our first night and for the prices it was not good at all. My partner ordered the burger which came with potato wedges which were more like one giant baked potato cut in to 4 bits, just far too big and definitely not enough of them, the burger was fine, nothing special. My son had the kids macaroni cheese which was just penne pasta (not macaroni) with what tasted like a out the packet cheese sauce. i had potato cakes which again were nice but nothing special. The best part of the meal were the normal chips that came with my sons "macaroni". The drinks were soooooooooo expensive. Over £4 for a pint of stella and over £2 for a can of irn bru. Now it wasn't busy by any means, we were the only 3 people eating and there were 5 people drinking. There were 3 girls behind the bar who were more interested in their mobiles than the guests so it took us a while to get someones attention, we eventually had to shout excuse me, not the best of service considering what we were spending. Apart from breakfast we didn't eat there again or drink.

The breakfast was fantastic, plenty to choose from and nothing is a problem. The breakfast staff were far better and much more efficient.

One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was for the indoor pool which my son loved. He was there twice a day and it was great (well as great as an indoor pool can get).

Overall yes we would stay again but we would eat out like we ended up doing and there are plenty of lovely places to eat.

Oh and they do have a code that changes every day for the free wifi but unfortunately it was slightly tempremental :(

Cann't fault this hotel staff where pleasant friendly, the food was amazing. We stayed 3 nights over new year, celebrating the new year. Hogmanay gala was good. We bought this as a package starting with high tea on arrival. Gala Hogmanay started with nipples and champagne then piped into for 5 course dinner with wine and must say the meal was of a very high standard 5 out of 5 to the chefs. The table serves was 5 out of 5 too. A big thank you to all staff members at Carnoustie for making our stay so good it sure made up for the horrible weather outside we will be back

Booked in on Christmas Eve for a couple of nights in the Paul Lawrie Suite. This is the 3rd year

in a row we have done this and we have never failed to enjoy the experience. Front desk staff

are friendly and and assist in any way they can. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and

the waiting staff are first class and helpful. The Christmas day lunch was faultless and the meal

in the evening although a buffet was simply superb. On leaving our room on Christmas morning

we found a stocking on the door knob filled with goodies, a nice gesture. The suite itself has

some interesting golf pictures, a simply fantastic bed, 2 bathrooms, 2 tv's and pleny of sitting

areas and a covered balcony with three viewing areas with fine views of the 1st tee and 18th

green on the Championship course. Internet is free each day with login and password given at

reception. We attended the midnight service and on return to the hotel hot chocolate was

available but we had something a little stronger to celebrate the early hours of Christmas day.

We will look forward to another visit in the future.

Room Tip: If you want to spoil yourself, go for one of the suites. Great rooms and fine golf views.
