“What An Experience PLUS a Family Priced Ticket!”

Arbroath Sea Safari
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Something we've wanted to do for a few years. This year Arbroath Sea Safari introduced a 'Family Ticket' making a sea sarfari trip more affordable of us.
We spoke to a really lovely lady in the Arbroath Sea Safari 'Office' on the harbour who gave us LOADS of information about the Coastal or Bellrock boat trips, what we could expect to see on each - ensuring we knew there are NO guarantees of seeing any 'wildlife' whilst out there.
We decided on a Coastal trip to see the caves, some birds (our main HOPE was to see Puffins!!)and if really lucky maybe a dolphin or 2, and booked for 2 days later.
On the morning of our booked trip another lovely lady, Anne, called to say the weather was favourable and our trip would go ahead and to arrive half hour before setting sail to get ready and have our safety brief.
Onto the 'boat' (a wee orange dinghy-type thing) we went nice and slow out the harbour then SWOOSH out up along the coastline to where we slowed right down and a very informative tour began! we were taken right into a few caves (much to the AMAZEMENT of our 7yr old son) In the last cliff a lifetime ambition was fulfilled - there before us PUFFINS!!! (and they weren't the only birds we saw!)
Next as we left that area doing a wee circle to head further round the coast there totally out the blue (and right out the sea) . . . . a DOLPHIN!!! Andy (our skipper and tour guide) and I swear this dolphin stopped in the air so we could see it before disappearing back under the water. well we circled again and there we saw 2 dolphins, a single, another pair doing wee jumps, a family of 4 . . . . . there were loads!! Were were all in awe of what we saw during that 1 hour trip.
If you're in the area and the weather's safe for the trips to go ahead BOOK UP and GO!!
We were back again at the weekend there but unfortunately the water was too rough and sadly all trips were cancelled, but there's always NEXT TIME!! :D

Living in Arbroath and seeing the Bell Rock lighthouse every day if my life in the distance. When I got the chance of this trip I jumped at it, I did not know what to expect this could be the best trip of our life or the worst!!!
Caroline the lady was very welcoming and explained the trip building up the excitement even more. We were provided with waterproof jackets and trousers and an "automatic" life jacket included in the price. The children wore normal inflated life jackets. She assisted us in ensuring the gear was all safely put on and we were prepared for the trip.
We were given a safety talk and welcomed by the captain Andrew. There were 12 of us on board from young children of 3 years up to granny and grandads!!
We set off speeding out of the harbour... After about a minute the captain stopped to check everyone was ok and happy to proceed.
Then we powered our way through bumpy waves and exhilarating fresh air for 25 minutes to the BellRock, this is 11 miles from the coast. The captain was sensible enough to slow when there were big waves and swells in the water.
Once we arrived at the lighthouse the boat stopped for us to watch the local wildlife. There were seals popping their head up for a look at our boat and gannets plummeting into the North Sea for their dinner!! The captain gave us some fans contains information about the history of the BellRock. We just sat and took in the surroundings which was calming after speeding through the water.
Then we were full speed ahead back to shore. The journey back was interesting recon hiding landmarks in the town and seeing Arbroath as we have not done before. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience and will be most definitely retiring and spreading the word. It's fabulous to have such a luxury with such talented people right on our doorstep. Everyone locals and tourists should make the most of this wonderful resource!!!
Thanks again!!!
