“Friendliest vilagers in all of Scotland”

First..the breakfast lunch and dinner was very good. Allison and Stuart are great host. There is a small pub with a pool table next to the dining room/ bar. This is the best place to meet locals for the TRUE Scot experience.

Room Tip: My single room had 2 twin beds and there was a "wee" sea view from the window.

Have stayed here for the last 2 weeks (1 night each week) during the course of work carried out in the local area. As usual with Aberdeen/Peterhead, hotels can be hard to come by due to the high volume of oil workers who tend to take up most available accommodation. Cruden Bay is approximately 10mins south of Peterhead and 20mins or so North of Aberdeen. Cruden Bay has one of the Top 100 golf courses in the world (52nd last year - 2009) and is a picturesque village with a lovely long sandy beach and fantastic bay. There isn't much in the village, one post office and a small village ship and a couple of hotels, St Olafs being one of them.

Due to this being a business booking, we're never entirely sure what to expect as it's booked remotely from the office and on first look at the website we were dubious as to what this hotel would offer. The hotel itself is situated on the main road through Cruden Bay and is easy to find. The front of the hotel looks out over the golf course and onto the bay however this is only visible from Rooms 3 and 4 (Front facing). The interior is a little dated and there is a large number of knick-knacks however it has quite a comfy feel to it. They have 5 rooms which encorporate doubles, singles, twin and family rooms. The rooms again are slightly dated in terms of wallpaper/decor but again it is relatively comfy. Most rooms have sofas or comfortable chairs and ensuite shower bathrooms. As far as we could tell all rooms are equipped with flat screen televisions and offer Freeview channels. The only downside to the rooms are some of the wallpaper is starting to look a bit shabby and could benefit from a bit of sprucing up but beds/chairs and the rest are all very comfortable. I'd recommend rooms 3 and 4 when booking as previously mentioned, these are the rooms which look out over the course and the bay.

The hotel has a restaurant and bar which are seperate. The food is absolutely fantastic and the portions are very generous. There have been a number of specials when we have stayed and the prices are reasonable. The bar is well equipped and has a pool table, darts, jukebox, fruit machine and large flatscreen television. The main users of the bar appeared to be locals but were very friendly and the bar isn't particularly busy (at least mid-week anyway, can't vouch for weekends).

All in all, myself and my colleagues were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel and have been rebooking for our weekly trip to do work and we'll be very sad to not be visiting after this coming week.

Staff are very friendly and accommodating and breakfast is extremely tasty!

St Olaf's Hotel is a small hotel in Aberdeenshire about 7 Miles from the town of Peterhead, Its very close to Cruden Bay Golf Course rated in the top 100 Courses its a links course. The rooms are excellent and food is very good with a nice choice too, the hotel is in a nice area if you wish to tour the area and come back for a nice relaxing evening at the bar and a good nights sleep. Nice friendly staff i would recommend it

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in 2004. Sorry to write the review so late. When I saw that this hotel was not listed for review, I just had to get this up. I was not really sure where to stay so that my husband could play golf at Cruden Bay, and I could explore the Burrels and Slains Castle (the supposed inspiration for the castle Dracula). We arrived late that evening, and our host was super about it. He had a very thick brogue, but we understood all that we needed to. Our room was huge, with a massive king bed and a view out our room of the golf course which was to die for. Breakfast was delicious, and we lounged on the sofa in our room until we headed off to golf and sightsee. Everyone was nice as could be, our room was large and comfy, and the view was amazing. You still got the old world feel of the local town though. We will definitely stay again!!!
They also have the only resturant in town, but we didn't stay long enough to have dinner. If it is anything like breakfast, it should be wonderful.
