My friend and I have just returned home after one night B & B and evening meal, absolute bargain at £ 20 each including bottle of wine in room ( Groupon Voucher ) Don't know what others are complaining about hotel very clean, food good and generous portions, staff second to none ( especially Karen on reception ) nothing was too much trouble , okay maybe hotel needs a little tlc here and there but stayed in much much worse ! We will be back, don't let others opinion stop you visiting.

I often go to the waterside to attend their exercise classes, pool, to get treatments or to attend events. All of the above are brilliant and well worth the money. The staff are all lovely and helpful.

My main issues are the enterence to the waterside and the main areas in the hotel. The entrance is covered by pot holes that if u dont miss them could probably do damage to ur car!!
The main areas are all carpeted however the carpets are patched up by duck tape. This is everywhere. The place needs new carpets in all the main areas.

This used to be a lovely hotel, set in an idyllic location however minor issues noted above are ruining the hotel. Its needing TLC.

We stayed for 2 nights, dinner, B+B and were pleasantly surprised given the terrible reviews this hotel has received. We must have been allocated one of the newly refurbished rooms as there was nothing to moan about with regards to the bed, showers, views etc. Staff were friendly and accommodating, food was good, bed was comfy. Yes, the TV only had 5 channels, but that just meant we spent more time in the pool and sauna! (Both very nice.) We got a cheap deal on our stay, so not sure how much it would have cost us full price, but we got superb value for our money and left feeling a bit confused about all the harsh criticism from previous guests.

i stayed here on business for 3 nights last week, my company payed £100 per night and i am glad i didnt pay for it i can tell you! i was sincerely disappointed in this place, it needs some serious refurbishment and a replacement of the chamber staff. All three nights i had to go to reception to ask for milk so i could have a cuppa - none was left in the room. The room itself did not feel clean, the toilet was hanging off the wall and there were marks and a hole in the wall behind the ancient TV set.

The TV has 5 channels so if you dont want to watch them then tough! The staff were helpful enough on the whole, if a little englishist at times.

Personally for the money i would recommend avoidance of this place in favour of a Premier Inn or similar - it'll cost about the same or less and you will have a better experience!

I have stayed in this hotel several times since I visit my daughter who lives in the area - and have a certain perverse affection for it.
But its faults are many, and improvements are - not forthcoming.
You have to enjoy strips of duct tape on the carpet leading to the main dining area. You must appreciate wallpaper peeling from walls in your room. Anticipate with relish breakfast produced from the mystery of some inner buffet which may have been harbouring the food for some time (in days gone by a fresh open buffet was provided). You must treasure rooms, some with views to adjacent walls, some with the constant melodic hum of the air conditioning unit, one with a black chandelier, and many with stained carpets.
Britannia continue to insist that this hotel is one of their priciest when their 'deals' are offered. They will similarly restrict the nights on offer - though few were staying when I visited.
The staff though have always been helpful, accommodating and friendly. And the pool was the warmest I have swam in. Good sauna and steam room too. Pity about the recently introduced £1 charge on towels.
From the hotel, I love the walk down the side of the River Ugie to the stretches of deserted golden sand. To the north, beyond the golf course, this wonderful deserted beach stretches on and on. Return to face the hotel refreshed.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Staff friendly & so helpful and leisure centre good but other hotel resources are very poor. Having stayed in hotel several times I noticed that hotel quality and value for money are steadily declining. The place appears shabby and uncared for by the owners. Carpets patched, wallpaper hanging from bedroom walls, stained ceilings etc whilst breakfast was stingy with slops of jam thrown into bowls, yogurt displayed the same way ( and uncovered), a toaster that is antiquated..... The feeling that this indeed was Fawlty Towers. In fact I don't know how the staff manage to stay so cheerful in these circumstances!

Room Tip: If not satisfied ask staff for another room. Some rooms very claustrophobic.

This is our 4th time here celebrating the New Year and every stay we have not been disappointed. The food is delicious, the staff very friendly and so helpful, and the package is so reasonable for what is included.
Britannia are refurbishing the hotel which will take time, so be patient previous trippers. We certainly will be there seeing 2015!
