“Just needs a little more effort from the chef”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2013

Our family visited on a Sunday evening to sample the carvery. The waiting staff greeted us with a smile and quickly led us to our table. Our drinks order was taken by a very efficient young waitress who was pleasant and clearly very good at her job. The food I am afraid let it down a bit. The roast beef ,turkey and gammon on offer had all been cooked well and carved nicely by the chef but the whole meal was let down by diabolical vegetables and gravy. I fail to understand how restaurants cannot serve gravy that has been made from the stock from the meats they have cooked?????
It was tasteless, bland and added nothing to the meal. The vegetables were over cooked and also tasteless.
The starter I chose was prawn tempura which consisted of 3 undercooked prawns in a pale bland batter. The cost of this very disappointing dish was £5.75. Not really acceptable I don't think.
We cannot fault the staff, the service or the surroundings but the food could be alot better. I would be happy to pass on my expertise on gravy making to the chefs.

Room Tip: Did not stay overnight.

We came into the Banff Springs for a family meal of six of us.
I was welcomed by a lovely, cheery receptionist (I think her name was Gemma..?) who greeted us and passed us over to the Restaurant Manager.
The Restaurant Manager, Sarah was very friendly and helpful, offering us to be seated straight at our table or in their seating area in the newly refurbished restaurant. It is now at a very, very high standard where the napkins are paper - unbelievable! The cutlery just glistens and the wine glasses are so delicate but sparkle away.
The view is absolutely amazing and we were lucky enough to visit on a beautiful night.

I have spoken to others about the booths in the restaurant where they felt they were unsuitable for older guests, well I think they are just picky because my mother of 69 wanted to go right into the end against the wall!
We were offered water and the wine list and the house red was stunning - a definite must have.

Our order was taken promptly where Sarah carried our drinks where she had a very steady hand with our six drinks on her tray, nothing I could have managed! haha.

Bread was given to us which was to die for, and homemade so we were told!
Between courses, Brian ensured we had plenty drinks and kept taking away our empty glasses.

All of the staff were certainly top-notch and obviously trained to a high standard - I feel as if the other reviewers commenting on bad service must have been dining somewhere else.

We will certainly be back not only to enjoy the terrific food but to enjoy the terrific and friendly service.

Compliments to the chef and restaurant staff for a lovely mid week special birthday lunch for my Mum. Lemon sole, salmon and chicken dishes cooked to perfection with selection of vegetables and mashed or new season potatoes.

Good to see a wide range of ages dropping in for lunch and empty plates being cleared by waiting staff which is always a good indication that the food was great to the last mouthful.

Quality of napkins and colour scheme along with lovely cutlery and modern square plates are a compliment to the recent refurbishment of the Banff Springs. Will be back to sample more of the tasty menus and the strawberry pavlova which was devine!

Good service, stunning views from the restaurant. Had Monkfish ,was overcooked.
Seems to be happening more and more not just here. Think some places frightened in case they undercook and give someone food poisoning. Don't put it on the menu unless you can cook it properly.

Stopped for 1 night as part of coastal tour.
Nice hotel in a crummy, run down town. Good rooms, modern and clean but a bit expensive for the area - but limited choice. Need to book a table for dinner. Food was OK. Would return if in the area.
