We went to Aberdeen to meet our daughter to celebrate her 24 birthday. We booked La Tasca online well in advanced. When we arrived the atmosphere was fine and we ordered our first course but almost immediately everything went downhill from there. A total mess of serving the starters and the mains came while the starters were still being eaten also with the remnants of the starters that seemed to have been forgotten about. I know how tapas work but the ordering was precise in the service.
We could live with this but when the £30 Faustino was plonked on our table we were disappointed to find that it was corked. We asked to speak to the manager and he came to our table with a defensive attitude. I got the impression that he was concerned with protecting his reputation rather than understanding the total disaster our night had become, Later, he came to our table and announced that he would 'speak to us' when we had finished which sounded more like a threat than an expression of conciliation.
The manager offered us a 40% discount which we accepted such was our haste to depart but it only made the whole evening cheap and nasty. We managed to retrieve the evening in a nice Aberdeen pub on the way back to our hotel but the message to all is don't go to La Tasca in Aberdeen if you want to have a special evening.
