Having stayed at the Malmaison many times I have always given them the benefit of the doubt - the trendy setting is really comfortable and I like the style. This lovely hotel is really being let down by poor service and management. The restaurant is more than adequately staffed but you can wait a long time for a menu and then for dishes to arrive. Waiting staff seem to ignore requests and no one seems to be incharge. Room service is a sad affair - £13.00 for a basket of bread, bowl of fruit, pastries and cereal.
Despite ordering night before the breakfast never arrives on time or complete.
If you simply want a trendy hotel then go to Malmaison but if you want service and good food then best to try somewhere else.

We stayed for several nights in a beautiful room (rather hard bed, but some would like that). Can't fault the accommodation, or the service, or the staff. We were however somewhat disappointed by the restaurant. Given it is a hotel, we expected the prices to be what they were, however the quality of the food was not great. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad - with the exception of cold chips, which were quickly replaced with profuse apologies - it was just pretty mediocre. There are far better places to eat in Aberdeen, and if we were looking to eat somewhere just a bit special, I'm afraid, it wouldn't be Malmaison. We ate at the Foyer Restaurant that same weekend. It won hands down. Would I recommend Malmaison? Rooms, yes. Food, no.

Funky, boutique styled bar / lounge areas. Comfy sofas and seating, intimate, relaxing. Good selection of wines and cocktails at a price, but this is a hotel!
However we have have given the restaurant three chances at lunch and dinner and have vowed never to eat there again! Poor service and dreadful food. Small portions of bland uninspiring less than fresh meals. We complained about the goats cheese & nettle pearl barley rissotto. It was akin to porridge made with water. Not a nettle in sight and barely a taste of goats cheese. We were told people often find goats cheese over powering when we complained! The crab starter was a mush and certainly not fresh crab. Staff not keen to put right the wrongs and we were over charged by £30 for group drinks in bar! Certainly one to avoid. Over rated and over priced.

Stayed at the Malmaison for the first time last night and it was fantastic! I read the reviews on here before going and was almost put off with some really bad ones but i'm glad I wasn't. Our meal was amazing and so was our room. Definately going back!

This is a good option for Aberdeen relatively speaking, mainly because there are so few other options. Sadly, service is still plagued by the Scottish attitude toward hospitality. Specifically, no real feel for service as one would expect in most other countries, a begrudging, "wish I didnt have to work in hospitality" attitude. Example, tried to order room service 4 minutes past the odd 11pm deadline, would there be flexibilty and a can do attitude toward making the customer happy ? No way. "Gas has been shut off, kitchen staff has run out the door, etc" consiquently it was a microwaved bowl of bad stew for £16. Now perhaps in the 1970s Britain that was acceptable, but in 2011 it seems outdated and embarassingly out of touch, particulary for a hotel that aspires to be modern and "with it". Sadly this still seems an acceptable level of service in Scotland. Which is why more and more international travelers are going elsewhere. The country is not good value compared to the rest of Europe where they bend over backwards to provide a great experiences. Sadly, i was on a business trip, so had very little choice. Would I come here for leisure ? No Way.
