This hostel is busy as Aberdeen is an expensive place to stay. But it definitely does not deserve four STB stars. The bed are actually pretty good. And the building is spacious and attractive with some parking.
But - The toilets and showers are not kept clean, and there is often no toilet roll. The showers are unpredictable. The basins frequently have two identical taps, giving no clue as to which is hot.
In the kitchen there is a shortage of dish towels and in the toilets no paper towels.
The staff seem all to be very helpful but are apparently unequal to the task of maintaining reasonable standards of maintenance and hygiene. Sizeable gaps in the windows and skirting mean the dining room is cold.
The place desperately needs some TLC .
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Our great value hostel is set in a historic building packed full of character, and has good facilities including family rooms. Aberdeen is a beautiful city, with easy access to the countryside, fishing, golf and pony trekking. City based attractions include cinema, concerts and the arts. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding. ... more less
