“Very nice rooms and staff”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

We stayed here for two nights last weekend and could not have asked for better, the staff were really friendly on arrival and our room was great, plenty of room and a really comfy bed. Showers have plenty of power and bathrooms are a decent size. Nice quiet place to stay.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are excellent.

The last time we stayed at the Travelodge in Bucksburn was in July, 2012. After our experience then, I wrote a rather scathing review of the hotel, stating that it was in need of a complete refurbishing if it was going to continue to attract repeat business.

Well, two years later, we were returning to Aberdeen, and our favourite hotel had almost doubled its price because of a golf tournament. So we decided to bite the bullet, and return to the Travelodge, as it was only for one night.

Much to our surprise, the Travelodge management had actually listened to the suggestions of disgruntled travellers. The rooms have had a complete makeover; the reception desk is bright and cheerful; the windows in the rooms have been completely refurbished; and there is new carpeting throughout. The door frames seem to be the last remnant of the previous version of the hotel. You can see how worn they are.

The only thing that hasn't changed at all is the condition of the car park. I could swear that the weeds that were there in 2012 are the ones that are still growing now. And the car park still looks as though it hasn't received much attention. However, anyone who is complaining now about the condition of the interior of the hotel now should have seen it two years ago!

The rooms have been tastefully redecorated in blue and cream. Our bed was very comfortable; the tea/coffee/soup making facilities were clean; the nasty CRT television has been replaced by a small flat screen television, with multiple channels instead of the original four (however, it would have been nice to have BBC ALBA as a choice); and the bathroom has been modernized. The soap and shower gel dispensers are a major step up from the minuscule bar of soap which was previously provided; however, if you prefer bar soap, be prepared to bring your own.

As previously noted, there is a McDonalds and a carvery within a short walk, as well as a Lidl supermarket. There is a 24 hour Tesco in Danestone, which is just across the Don. Once Mugiemoss Road reopens, it will be easier to avoid the Haudagain Roundabout.

The hotel is on the flight path for the airport, but there are no flights in after 10 p.m. There are early morning flights in, so late sleepers should keep the windows shut, if possible.

All in all, we felt that the changes made to the Bucksburn Travelodge have made it a reasonable destination once again. It's convenient to town, and also for getting out of town. And the prices are reasonable, for the most part.

Now, if only they could do something about the car park...

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the Inverness Road are much quieter. There's no lift, so if you have lot...

For a short stay over in Aberdeen this hotel is great, clean rooms and friendly staff, also a short ride away to the city by bus, bit of noise from the aeroplanes flying low but 2 sets of windows keeps the noise bearable. We paid under £50 for 2 adults and 2 kids Great value for an everyday family like ours, would return here if in the area again.

Room Tip: Hotel has rooms away from main road

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last night and after arriving home I decided to review it as a few things caught our attention.

The car park was scattered with cigarette ends which isn't the most inviting but the hotel is good for being near the airport or centre without being too loud. We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist named Jessica. She checked us in quickly which was great after a long drive, she gave us directions to our room, let us know she would be there all night if we needed anything else which was great as we always seem to need more milk in hotels!

It was around 8pm and we weren't sure of where there was to eat so once settling into our room we asked the receptionist and she let us know the times for the surrounding places, to which we ended up going to the pub just across the road which is handy but the places to eat are limited so I wouldn't recommend the hotel for a long stay unless you want to drive to restaurants or order in. The hotel does has a vending machine if you have a sweet tooth and money to spare.

The hallways of the hotel were quite grubby, the carpets looked worn but being the hallway it didn't bother us too much as long as our room was good. We got to our room and it was a good size for the price you pay, especially just for two. The bed was made nicely but the furnishings seemed to be dusty. The bathroom was amicable size to have a shower and get yourself changed however the unit surrounding sink looked a bit grimey, not sure if that was not being wiped or if it's old. Our toilet roll was almost finished so we had to get more from reception which isn't the end of the world but you'd expect to get a decent amount at the start of your stay. We mentioned the dust and the girl seemed very apologetic and offered to move us room but we were settled in and decided not to move however she offered to dust while we went for our dinner which I thought was great as she didn't have to offer.

After our dinner it was a nice area to walk around, if it hadn't been pouring with rain all evening! Aberdeen weather I hear! I enjoyed a nice shower which had good pressure as it comes from the taps rather than a separate system, also good for temperature control! The bed was comfortable and there wasn't much noise through the night, the odd drunken stagger to a room but it was a Saturday night so we had expected it.

When leaving in the morning the weather was significantly better and you could see how nice of an area it is surrounding the hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you need access to the airport but don't want all the noise or if you just need somewhere to rest on a trip to somewhere further. The receptionist was lovely and attentive and our room was comfortable but based on the cleanliness or lack of we decided a three was fair. However, we would stay again if in the area in the foreseeable future!

Room Tip: Upstairs seemed nice and quiet, I imagine downstairs you'd hear more cars or noise from receptio...

Recent stay with my partner and our child, had been a long day travelling for my son and getting in later in the day was greatly appreciated by the quick check-in procedure and informative member or staff on duty. When entering and leaving the hotel was always greeted with a smile and hello or have a nice day. Room was clean and had everything we needed/expected even able to borrow a fan from reception with the heat we have been having was a nice touch! Will definately return and recommend this hotel

the first impression was disgusting, filthy carpark which had not been swept or cleaned for weeks, we counted 57 cig butts within walking distance of our car. Rooms a bit better but nothing to write home about. We would sleep in our car rather than go back to this horrible, dismal place

Room Tip: probably not one

Only reviewing as I received an survey from the hotel which brought me here, not really one for complaining but since they asked! As I was there for work in Aberdeen I didn't really need much from my stay. I'm glad it was only 2 nights. Our room was next to the motorway & as it was pretty warm we had to sleep with the windows open, very noisy, as well as the dogs in that were staying in the other rooms (I don't mind that so much though). The mattress was pretty steep in the middle. We only received 1 set of towels (1 large & 1 small), these weren't changed during our stay. The shower gel pump in the shower was completely empty. There was a lack of reception staff, except for the little sign on the desk stating that they were probably busy with another guest. The doors at the entrance are open to anyone, with the door up to our room just next to it, all unmanned. There was a large pothole as you turn in to the car park, which we didn't see as we drove in quite late.

Again, I normally wouldn't think twice about any of these things, which is why I didn't bring it up during my stay, wanted to get in & out without any hassle.

Good points - room was spacious, bed was large, Mcdonalds & carvery right outside of the hotel which is handy as the hotel offers no food services.

Thank you for your review Betts-1989. We do expect all of our customers stays to be as comfortable as possible so it is regrettable to learn that your room was too hot. Unfortunately not all of our hotels have air conditioning, however we do have a number of fans available from reception on a first come, first serve basis. Furthermore, we require all our rooms to be fully set up for our guests’ arrival and to be serviced daily so we are very sorry to learn that your soap dispenser was not refilled and that your towels were not changed. We’d like to be able to contact you to find a resolution so please could you visit our website and select the Contact Us button to tell us more and when doing so please indicate you have left a TripAdvisor review.
