First visit to The Chester with family to celebrate our Silver Wedding anniversary - Restaurant ambience was great - not too hot not too cold, lighting, table spacing and music all just right. given a very good instead of excellent as 2 of our party are Lactose intolerant (which we had notified before arrival) disappointed that our waitress seemed unable to grasp this.. when ordered 2 x lobster grilled with olive oil & garlic instead of butter as lactose intolerant managed to translate that somehow to the kitchen as 1 lobster with olive oil & garlic and one with butter , olive oil & garlic - if we had not questioned and assumed one of our party would have been extremely ill!! subsequently one member had to wait while another lobster was done...felt there was a wee bit of run and hide at this point from the staff... the sensible thing which we suggested was bringing another plate so the lactose free lobster could be shared between my daughters while the new one was cooking. with food intolerances becoming ever more common a hotel of this standard should not be making mistakes like this.
The same waitress though pleasant seemed very lacking in knowledge of most of the dishes on the menu - we several times had to ask her to go and check as opposed to saying " I don't think so or I don't know" even adding cream to 2 requested black coffees with tia maria - she had served us all night how many times do you have to say lactose intolerant....

that aside it did not spoil our lovely evening - food and wine were excellent - could not have faulted it but Chester to keep your 5 star status you need to train all your staff to the same level.

Our Dear Valued Guest,

A personal thank you for your review! I am very disappointed with our team' s knowledge on the special dietary requirements, especially when we knew in advance the information. Please be assured that your feedback has assisted us to see the area of weaknesses and that we have implemented immediately extra training on these specific areas.

I fervently hope that one team member lack of correct knowledge which I would like to say has previously been trained on does not deter you from returning and enjoy the overall experience of dining with us.

Once again, I thank you for your true and honest review and I look forward to welcoming you back to The Chester Hotel and hope we will be able to restore your confidence in our delivery of efficient service.

Kindest Regards

We were fortunate enough to enjoy afternoon tea at 2 establishments, 2 weekends "on the trot". The first "The Ritz" in London, the second "Chester", Aberdeen. Both were equally amazing. Also to think the scones, cakes and pastries are all produced in-house at Chester is impressive. We took my parents for Mothers' Day and we were highly impressed. So much so, we went back the following evening for a bar supper and enjoyed the most amazing burgers.

Dear AlisonM,

A special Thank You for your feedback on your experience on our Afternoon Tea, especially when you have compared to enjoying very similar at The Ritz!!

Our Executive Chef and our Pastry Chef did go over every item served to make sure that the quality had remained consistent after receiving a negative feedback. It is reassuring to know that we have continued to make our Afternoon Tea a wonderful experience.

Once again, our sincere appreciation for your generous comments and we look forward to having you with us soon!!

We recently stayed one night at the Chester Hotel - just to see what it was like more than anything!!
We received a very warm and smiley welcome, once through to the bar area we were disappointed to see that despite being closed for several months its still looked v similar to as it did when it was Simpsons.
The rooms are nice and had everything you would need and expect from this standard of hotel
The menu was good but not surprising and the food (evening meal) was well prepared and presented.
All in all a pleasant stay and it will certainly give next door a run for its money.

Dear KerrieG70,

Thank you so much for your feedback! Personally I did not know what the original Simpson Hotel looked liked except from a few photographs shown to me. However, the feedback from so many people visiting is how it is unrecognisable. This is of course an individual perception.

The team were delighted with your positive comments and we look forward to serving you again in the near future.

We called and booked a table for lunch on saturday. When we arrived we were shown through to what we now know is the restaurant area. On arriving everyone was most helpful, however when given the menu it was not the one we were expecting .. A £29.50 steak at 12.30pm was not what we were after. Therefore we requested to have the bar menu, and after a rather long hesitation we were given it. We ordered and waited around 40min for our starter, when we were about to enquire as to its whereabouts we we were told our order had gotten lost going to the kitchen downstairs and would be with us shortly. Unfortunately no offer to get fill up our drink while we waited etc ... Once arrived it was lovely - no faulting the food. We did however feel that our order was frowned upon. Altho every other diner in the restaurant was staring at our places and checking the menu again! Unfortunately not the experience i had hoped for - and lesson learned if i did go back for food - make sure you book the bar!

Dear Lauraannepaterson,

Thank you for your feedback on your lunch experience at The Chester Hotel. I am disappointed that the different services were not explained to you when you booked.

Operationally we work from two different kitchens, our Theatre Kitchen services only the Restaurant and the Restaurant menu, while the Bar Kitchen does all the Bar, Room Service and Banqueting. This unfortunately does cause service issues when someone requests the Bar Menu in the restaurant and usually this is not encouraged.

My sincere apologies for this miscommunication from our team and also the slow service experienced. Thank you for your encouraging remarks about visiting us again and when you do please ask to speak to me and I will personally make sure that you will receive the great service that we have been known for.

Once again, your feedback is important to us and we continuously use this as our continuous training tool for our team.

Kindest Regards

Visited here yesterday for a bar supper. Firstly, the bar area is not equipped to cater food with either tiny or coffee height tables - not great for eating food from. We went late afternoon and to start with it was not very busy yet the service was still slow which is frustrating when you have hungry children with you - they waited close to an hour and a half for a burger. Staff were not attentive and only came to the table to clear plates or take drinks orders when we eventually asked! Such a shame because some really were trying - the others couldn't be bothered.
The positive was that the food was pretty tasty which means at least the kitchen staff know what they're doing.
I had high hopes for here as Simpsons was an old favourite so we will try the main restaurant, without the children, as will mean we won't be stressing about them getting fed up.
Hopefully it's just some teething problems.

Dear jdevenny,

We welcome your response to your experience at The Chester Hotel bar and thank you for giving us this feedback.

It is disappointing that our service on the day was below our standards and I have shared your comments with the Team. Our Food & Beverage Manager working with our Bar Manager have tightened their operational procedures including immediate retraining to prevent these service issues reoccurring.

Please accept my sincere apologies and hope that you will give us the opportunity to return where we can restore your confidence in our service.

My girlfriends and I recently had the afternoon tea at the Chester hotel and were very unimpressed. Having experienced quite a few afternoon teas I was rather shocked by the poor quality of the food. We paid £26 per person (no alcohol included) which is more than I have paid in the Aberdeen area but less than some hotels in Edinburgh etc but was happy to pay believing it was a prestigious hotel and the standard would be high. It wasn't worth it......the bread on the sandwiches were dry at the corners.....the filling....what filling. I could have easily forgiven the sandwiches if the cakes were nice however, the cakes were dry and had very little taste. Cake selection in general strange..... Fruit slice (ver dry) etc, basic cakes little effort applied. My constructive criticism is concentrate on less variety and perfect some very tasty signature cakes/bakes. In addition to the food the set up is not ideal for a girls catch up. Tables are right next to the bar and very close to other tables. It was very quiet and we felt like we had to whisper to avoid being overhead. We would have been better off sitting in the restaurant opposed to behind the reception area. And to cap it off we had to pay £10 deposit.....for 4 people!!!, never heard of such a thing.....for 10 people then yes understandable. On the plus side the staff were very nice and helpful.

Dear Morven K,

First of all, thank you for your comments about your personal experience at The Chester Hotel.

It was however very disappointing for us to receive such comments after serving over 100 afternoon teas from the time we opened on March 1st 2014.

Our Executive Chef and our Pastry Chef have taken these comments seriously and have both re emphasised training to all staff involved in delivering the high standard that we have received so many great positive comments on.

Again, it is disappointing that you felt that the beautiful, relaxing and tranquil surroundings of the Hotel Residence Lounge was not conducive to your personal taste, however we feel with the exclusivity of not having more than 20 guests on any day we are creating an Afternoon Tea Experience.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and hope you would take the opportunity to visit us again.

Kindest Regards

Very nice one night business stay - had a booth in the bar - staff very attentive and importantly had a smile for us. The reception desk also had a smile for us (Sierra and Diane) when we arrived - again important. Special mention for Carsten who spent time with us and also booked a booth for us. Food was very good - excellent duck pate! so all in all a good stay and we will be back for another stay.

Room Tip: Room 44 and 43 are near the stairs - so a little noisy.

Dear Guest,

We were delighted to hear that you have enjoyed your first stay with us. More importantly were your personal comments to the individual staff members who all felt absolutely thrilled that they were singled out as giving that special service.

We look forward to your future visits as we continue to enhance our product over all areas. Our Conference and Banqueting Venue is now open and the Beauty rooms will open on the 1st May 2014.

Once again, thank you for giving us such a positive write up on Trip Advisor.
