This park used to be one of the Jewels in Aberdeen. Now it has an air of neglect. The once thriving Cafe/Restaurant now lies boarded up and has been replaced with a Burger van, spewing out fumes from a generator which sits and drones all day. the toilets have bioarded up windows with no internal electric lights. the one saving Grace is the large play area which is well used by the children. Pitty it has been left to go so far downhill over the years.

It's a superb place. If you follow the trails around the golf and the stables it's magical, especially at autumn. There are few dogs running wild in the pet area and an ice cream/tea hut to rest a bit.

It's also very clean and the upkeep is very good.

The only issue we had where the signs. One send us in a direction (the right one) stating 1 1/2 miles and more than 1 1/2 miles later, we found the same one, but not at the same place.
So we got our phones out and went back to civilisation like this...

For the non drivers one like us, you can get a bus (11?) from Aberdeen centre that brings you almost there (5-10 min walk)

The total area of this local authority parkland is about 800 Acres, and encompasses Football pitches, Rugby pitches, rose gardens, a maze, toilets, The PiperAlpha Memorial, several golf courses, A small zoo, and a cafe which was recently shut, hopefully it is again open! The parkland is also well stocked, and there is a large children's play are near the cafe...Car parking is readily available an free at present, and because of the mix of facilities a visit is recommended as it is also near, but much bigger than Johnston Gardens

Hazlehead Park has an animal farm/zoo which you now have to pay to get into but is worth a look. It is nice for a walk, has the Piper Alpha memorial, a cafe and a children's playpark which was always very enjoyable when I was that age! There is also a large grassy area which is good for picnics on a sunny day.
