“Great little museum with some cool exhibits about the local maritime culture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

Aberdeen maritime museum is relatively compact, but they make good use of the space they have with a large model of an offshore platform running up through the various floors, which I particularly enjoyed.

A large portion of the museum is dedicated to oil and gas related maritime pursuits, which makes sense in context for the region. There are a couple of sponsored 'exhibits' which I was less than enamoured with, but most of the displays are interesting and informative.

When I went there was a temporary exhibition about the Arctic/Antarctic, which was really good, with some beautiful photographs and pieces.

Definitely recommend if you are at all interested in maritime history and have a free afternoon in Aberdeen!

“Very interesting, glad it was open during construction”

I enjoyed the mix of older and more modern exhibits, especially the deep sea diving suit and the scale model of the oil platform. They are in the middle of installing a major new exhibit, set to open in Spring 2013, so some parts of the museum were closed. But there was still plenty to keep us occupied, and there was a good view of the various ships coming in and out of the harbor.

“A seafaring historical adventure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

From the days of early open sail fishing boats, and whaling vessels, through the years of coal fired steam trawlers, then diesel engine factory boats, to modern oil support vessels - the entrance free Maritime Museum shows the history of Aberdeen's economic dependency on the North Sea.

To visit Aberdeen and not to go to it would be disappointing.

There is a multi-storey car park nearby (charged according to time there) and the premises is a few minutes walk and close to other city centre attractions.

very realistic, i liked everything but sadly there was nowhere to get refreshments and I would have liked more re-enactments, the staff were helpful and friendly and knew plenty of detail about the exhibits, I have been here many times since childhood and never get bored

my favourite mueseum from a young age!
lots to see and well worth a visit!
so relevent to aberdeen history and so well located (right accross from the harbour in the city centre)
great for visits with family and also very good for school trips where i ventured a lot as a youngster.
I hope to see it around for a long time.
