We have just returned from a visit to Aberdeen and stayed at this hotel. I would highly recommend this for a break. We had booked two rooms and both were off a very high standard and very comfortable. The staff who dealt with us were polite and accommodating. We did not have dinner in the hotel so cant comment on this, but there was a buffet style breakfast that had something for everyone. Before and after checkout we were able to leave our bags leaving us free to explore the city. If travelling by train, then the hotel is only a short distance from the station. I would have no hesitation in booking a stay here in the future.

I booked this hotel as a treat for my sister for her birthday and read the reviews after booking. However, I can't fault it. We arrived and were dealt with very quickly by a friendly and efficent girl. Housekeeping were excellent and very friendly. We were given first class treatment in the dining hall on our first evening and would have gone back had we not had other plans on the second. There are some building work going on but it certainly did not get in the way of a very pleasant stay. Perhaps some former guests should rememer that if you treat others with respect you get respect back. Some of the staff were young but we all have to learn sometime - and they were all pleasant and eager to please. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Rembering that the Calley used to be one of Aberdeen's top 4 hotels, with it's "ahead of time american bar"I booked in for a few days.BIG mistake. Well, where else to minimise walking(blue badge) and on a budget?
Check-in--eventually ok when adult took over.
Breakfast on first morning---Bacon taken from leather sole.
Pre-theatre dinner---staff don't know what days this offer is available.
Room heating--non existant. request electric heater--suddenly "we're very busy", but no one to be seen. Receptionist missed important lesson at charm school.
Checking out--hope your not catching a train. (get up at 6am)
Standard room--grubby &net curtains grey.
Comfy bed-- nice and high. Requested a smokers room, but no usual smokey smell. Eastern European room cleaner very efficient as their reputation frequently reveals.
This hotel is run by a crowd of youngsters who just have'nt a clue, many of them recently just started, and no one appears to be in overall control. High staff turnover!!!

  • Liked — comfy bed

This hotel is horrendous.
There is very little else that I can add to that.
Unfortunately Aberdeen is unique in that hotels occupancy is unbelievably high therefore standards can be dropped and the hotels still manage to let rooms, this hotel is a prime example. In most cities this would be empty a large part of the time.
In future I would rather stay in Dundee and travel than stay in this hotel
Stay at your peril............

I have just returned from a bank holiday weekend break in Aberdeen and it was brilliant.
The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and we were lucky enough to get one of the newly decorated rooms on the 4th floor. They are decorated to a very high standard, very welcoming and very comfortable and i was impressed by the plasma tv in the room!!
Breakfast was very nice and the service was fantastic, we ate in the hotel 2 of the nights in the restaurant and the quality of food was very high. The service we received was to a high standard and all staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall a great time was had we will definalty be back and will recommend it to others.

Many thanks for the above favourable review. This is certainly an exciting time for the Caley - as I am sure a lot of you will have read/noticed that we are in the middle of an extensive £3m refurbishment. To keep everyone up to date, the first 21 of our renovated bedrooms have been returned to us and are available to book - most websites will now offer deluxe or executive rooms. We still have 21 rooms off for refurbishment until October, and the scaffolding adorning the front of the hotel is to allow window and roof maintenance work to take place simultaneously. This should also be down by October. We are pleased that these upgrades will increase the standard of accommodation available in Aberdeen, while we still pride ourselves on the same level of friendly service that we always have.

We booked this at the last minute and made the fatal mistake of not checking the reviews on TripAdvisor first! My excuse is that we was looking for something that was good value, central and available now. The rate we were quoted was pretty good (for Aberdeen) and included breakfast which most of the other Aberdeen hotels seemed to consider as extra.

When we made our way to the room after check-in, we found that it was labelled as a smoking room. Neither of us being smokers, we went back to reception and asked for a non-smoking room. We were told that there were no more non-smoking rooms available but they could offer us some air-freshener! We could, of course have cancelled the room but would have lost all our money as cancellations had to be notified by 14:00 on the day (we checked in at 17:30). We decided to brave to room and make the best of it as we were only staying for one night.

The room itself was OK – nothing special. A standard sized double bed, wardrobe, desk, TV and access to a wireless internet connection is available to purchase. There was no air-conditioning and the (one) window opened on to dingy backstreet. The bathroom had a bath which included a shower unit.

After a restless night, we took breakfast in the room which was decent enough and realised that we now smelt like a couple of heavy smokers. In hindsight, I wish we’d just cancelled the room and taken our chances elsewhere.

The hotel appears to be having some renovations done to the exterior, hopefully this will extend to the bedrooms. If ours was typical, they need updated. Very limited parking is available free of charge at the rear of the hotel – there a probably spaces for 15 cars.

A general note: Aberdeen hotels are generally expensive, in short supply and (in my opinion) the quality is pretty poor. If you can, try looking around just outside the city where the price is generally better and there are some nicer hotels.

We stayed in this hotel when we were in Aberdeen to see a concert and wanted to make a weekend out of it.
Ok the location is pretty good, right slap bang in the middle of Aberdeen and you get free use of the car park.
We were given a room on the first floor which was disgusting. It didnt have a proper window. Just a frosted plastic one that looked onto a plastic window over the kitchen. The carpet was stained the wallpaper was peeling off. the bed was lumpy and the furniture didnt match and was badly placed in an already odd shaped room. We thought we would just put up with it as the hotel seemed packed and went out to our concert. When we came back we soon realised we were right above the function room which was the scene of a party night so until 1 in the mornign felt like we were trying to sleep in the middle of the dancefloor. Then the rain started outside and bounced of the plastic kitchen roof outside our window which was like bullets being fired! Next morning went to the desk to complain and the girl told us that was one of the room people often asked for! I dont think so! So we got moved and i must admit it was a much better room. But we were so tired from no sleep the night before it ruined the day for us and spent half of it recovering in bed.
So i would definitly not go back there!!!
