“So Disorganised”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

The physical layout of this hotel makes it really difficult for front of house-all food has to be carried through reception area and into eating area; as such breakfast items were cold (beans)overcooked(sausages) undercooked(tomatoes)hard(eggs). When complained re breakfast ,were told we cd have freshly cooked breakfast -how does that reflect on the rest of the customers- u take it or leave It We were told we had to pay £14.95 for breakfast each-it was quite quickly remedied that we had indeed prepaid this, but a bit embarrassing all the same as we sat in "waiting seats whilst it was sorted out".Room was ok-discoloured grouting in bathroom n badly broken tile in bathroom floor which we reported-we got what we paid for. no tea/coffee facilities in room-very unusual! £55 for 2 bnb.Corridor noises throughout the night-folk closing doorsetc didn't sleep well.

s etc

Room Tip: 309 to the rear so less noise

So pleased I chose this hotel for an event I was attending at the Music Hall - this hotel is just round the corner! Although I was in a single room, it wasn't too small (indeed the bathroom was quite large) and the bed was a good size - very comfortable with crisp linen. Only thing that was wrong is that you can't get BBC radio stations apart from 5 Live. This may be only after 6pm though which I've experienced in some hotels before. Truly appalling! Breakfast was very good - nice buffet selection of cereals, fruit and juices. Hot breakfast is cooked to order - which is how it should be - so bacon was crisp, not soggy and poached eggs were runny, not rubbery! Like all Aberdeen hotels, this was not cheap but if I'm back on business, would definitely stay here again.

I chose the Caledonian Thistle to host an afternoon tea party for 45 or so guests for a 'Naming Day' party for my son. After a slightly rocky start to the organisation process (which in fairness was swiftly resolved), the event turned out perfectly for us, with the team of Sarah, Nadine, Colin and Jane (and the staff on the day) taking excellent care of us and our guests. We were told we were the largest afternoon tea party group the hotel had hosted but you would never know - the food was delicious and served promptly...the scones were still mouth-wateringly warm! The team were very accommodating to our needs and even managed to provide 7 highchairs for all the babies we had at the party.
The Terrace Suite was a fabulous venue and everyone commented on how beautiful it was.

We didn't stay over at the hotel ourselves but some of our party did and in general, their rooms were excellent.

I would highly recommend the Thistle for events, a spot of afternoon tea, evening drinks or simply anyone seeking a well-located hotel in Aberdeen for an overnight stay.

We stayed here for two nights last week .

Car parking is easily accessed from Diamond Street and is good.

Cooked breakfast was good and the restaurant staff helpful.

Reception staff were welcoming. Our room had the following issues:-

Cracked bathroom sink.
Large stain on the underside of the decorative strip on the bed.
Non functioning heated towel rail .

We reported our dissatisfaction with this , the morning after the first night and heard nothing .
Early evening we complained again and this time we were offered a good upgrade. This room was spacious with an excellent view on the third floor near the Terrace Suite .

We were told that the first room had not been refurbished as yet , so make sure that you have a refurbished room.

stayed 3 nights when visiting Aberdeen for a family wedding, wonderful central location close to all you could want shopping and dining wise and no more than ten minutes from the train station, check in/out nice and efficient and the room I had was single room at the back nice quiet good size and comfortably furnished and cleaned and made up daily, the free Wi-Fi was an excellent bonus, would stay again no hesitation.

Stayed at the thistle for one night. We have previously stayed in this hotel and knew it was lovely. Very central location although no noise. On arrival we were told we'd been upgraded to a deluxe room free of charge. This was not a deluxe room and was just the standard room we had booked. Room was still well furnished and a nice, modern bathroom. Would definitely return!

We visit Aberdeen about twice a year and always choose the Caledonian. The hotel is very centrally located with an abundance of shopping, restaurants and bars in close proximity, It also offers off street parking although the parking area is not overly large, and operates on a first come basis. The hotel itself is very comfortable with friendly and welcoming staff and the rooms are well appointed and modern. Breakfast is very good. The only negative I can think off was that there was a club somewhere in the vicinity and the resonance of drum and bass could be clearly heard in our room until about 1am when it stopped. Still, it is a city centre and a certain amount of external noise is to be expected, it will not deter me from returning the Caledonian when next in Aberdeen.
