Went here on our fist morning in Aberdeen as it was raining. There is a very good mix of art here in a spacious and light atmosphere, the staff were very helpful and inconspicuous. Things that stood out were the bronze of a sleeping bag, the table setting for historical figures from the French Revolution, Guthrie's - To Pastures New, Maternity by Hitchcock, Mariana by Rossetti and the watercolour by Singer Sargent of the Blind Musicians. You can go round it in a couple of hours and the shop and cafe were very good as well.

I visit the art gallery at least every 6 weeks and can not understand why I have not reveiwed it before. The exhibitions are nearly always interesting with an excellent blend from the classic to the modern. A recent Annie Lennox display being very well appreciated. Currently there is a fascinating display of Aberdeen silver. Unfortunately though that said there is also a display by Gary Hume which thankfully only occupies a fraction of the gallery and is one of the worst I have ever seen. Gary Hume was born in 1962 an apparently likes to reinvent himself. He clearly alas must have been a failed abortion just before his birth, but you can tell this from his "work".
Thankfully for myself and the many visitors who take advantage of this free to enter gallery the whole experience is a largely positive one.

Superb collection of well chosen works from classics, great range of impressionists right up to date with works by Bacon, Emin etc. Regular exhibitions of local [e.g Aberdeen Artists] and National importance [Annie Lennox collection, B.P. Portraits etc].

When you've had enough of trudging round the shops, this is a place of space and tranquility in Aberdeen. I visited at the end of the Annie Lennox exhibition which itself was surprisingly interesting, they have a great shop, full of present ideas too
