“Okay hotel suite.”
Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

This place can be somewhat noisy. The doors slam and the walls are very thin. The curtains dont cover the window completely so if sunlight bothers you esp in abierdeen when it gets bright at 4am. Other than that, it was clean. Big bathroom, able to cook although no oven. Comfortable beddings, very close to union street. Less than 1min walk.

The suite was spacious and well appointed. The staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We received assistance with maps and directions on planning our time in Aberdeen and were able to leave our bags in storage after we checked out and before we were ready to head for the airport.

The "breakfast" was quite disappointing and brought the rating down to a 4. It was cold cereal and rather pedestrian bread for toast. These were left in our room the day before for us to serve ourselves the next morning. A little extra effort in the way of pastries and our cheeses would have made a big difference,

This was our first time in an apartment suite opposed to a standard hotel and we were so pleased we decided to give this a go.

The entire block is recently refurbished to an exceptionally high standard. Our apartment was incredibly spacious with loung, kitchen, bedroom and very modern bathroom. The kitchen had everything you would have at home so for self-caterers there is no worry at all with fridge, toaster, microwave, cutlery, crockery and all sorts of other modcons.

The loaction is brilliant, just 1 minute from the main Union Street with all the great bars and staurants. The theatre is just 10 minutes walk away. Parking is readilly available right outside but it is time restricted and very expensive £4 per hour. There is an NCP car park literally a street away under the Park Inn Hotel which is no more than £12 for 24 hours.

The recption staff were extremely helpful and gave us a low floor on request.

The only draw back for some guests is that there is no lift. Even the first floor is up two flights of stairs so beware of this issue.

This hotel is extremely recommended and the price is incredibly cheap for the quality and location.

This was our first experience of staying in a suite rather than a normal hotel, and we were not disappointed, for our 2 night stay. The suites are situated in a great position in a quiet square, only a few minutes walk from Union Street, with all the shops. There is no lift.

Stayed in Suite 105 on 1st floor, which had a large bath, and a bigger than expected balcony with a table and chairs. Comfortable king size bed, and there was adequate wardrobe space. Continental breakfast is already stored in the kitchen area, which was plenty for our needs.

Wall mounted digital TV with plenty of channels in the living area.

Very friendly on reception. Complimentary free local newspaper which was interesting to read.

Would not hesitate to stay here again, if we come back to Aberdeen, and would recommend the Craibstone Suites to anybody.

Room Tip: Ask for Suite 105 which had a balcony, and at rear of the premises.

Total mess from check-in. This was booked through my work and was to be charged to the business card upon check-out. Receptionist with a vacant expression informed me that this was absolutely not the case and they charge at check-in. Later found out this was not the case - fault number one. I was therefore charged a considerable amount of money which I'm having to claim back, leaving me out of pocket for the next 5 working days. Bad times.

Get to my suite - absolutely gorgeous as I entered. Big bathroom with massive bath - score! (I love me a good bath). Room was lovely.

THEN.

It happened.

I did my usual check that everything was clean and in working order... Several dirty glasses, one crumpled receipt and one champagne cork later, I was not amused. Later the general awesomeness of the bath was let down by the fact that the entire faucet unit was loose and the taps had absolutely no heat resistance whatsoever (struggled to turn tap off without melting my palm off the bone).

Brilliant hotel let down by lack of attention to detail and ill-informed reception staff. If I'm asked to stay here for work again, I will be requesting a change of accommodation.

Room Tip: Receptionist with red/purple hair at check-out was absolutely brilliant. Best part of my stay - sup...

Many thanks for writing this review, I am sorry that you experienced difficulties at check in, however I can advise that all guests are charged at check in as standard.

With regard to the taps I can only apologise - since your review we have had our hot water system inspected and no fault was found, we also have our water system tested monthly and temperatures taken - we are well within the guidelines for hotel providers.

I do hope that your experience will not prevent you from staying with us in future. If you wish to discuss any of the above please do not hesitate to contact reception.

I booked Craibstone Suites for the weekend of 24th to the 26th May 2013. Fantastic weather and a fantastic place to stay, did not have the feel of a hotel whatsoever, more like a stylish comteporary flat. Just 2 minutes from amazing pubs and clubs and the main shopping district. I would definitely stay here again you get far more for your money than in say premier or travel inn.
I cant say how much I enjoyed this stay at craibstone suites. the only thing is the parking directly outside the suites is expensive. but two streets over is a sercured NCP were 48hr stay was £14 fantastic rates compared to outside the street were it averages £1 an hour.

Room Tip: ask for the balcony suite!!!

Rather than use a hotel for the night after a works 'do' in Aberdeen, we used the Craibstone suites instead. It was well worth it.

Bon Accord Square is only a minute or so from Union Street (where there is a decent sized Co-op supermarket in addition to plenty of shops, bars and restaurants) but you would never know you were in the centre of the city once inside the building. It is quiet, relaxed and peaceful.

Check in was easy and staff very helpful. Our room was at the end of a rather winding corridor through the building - perhaps not ideal if you had heaps of luggage but fine with overnight bags. Room size was excellent and the kitchen / lounge area really meant you could relax in the same way you might at home. The provided breakfast was already in the room (in the fridge) and was enough for the two of us.

Aberdeen City centre suffers from a 'plague' of seagulls. I mention this because at first light, the birds start calling loudly from the rooftops around the Craibstone Suites. With the bedroom window open this is easily heard and really disturbs your sleep. If possible, try and keep the window shut so that the damn birds don't wake you / keep you awake.

Would definitely use the Craibstone Suites again - the weekend price was comparable to local hotels but you get so much more for your money!
