I've been to the Light of Bengal a few times in the past and had good meals, however, my most recent experience was thoroughly underwhelming. The service was terrible and the food was very disappointing. We waited almost an hour for our starter and then an hour in between starter and main course. When we did get some service it was all very rushed. Despite complaining and being told that the chef was very busy, the food was tepid and looked stale when it arrived. Most of the dishes were so salty that I didn't enjoy them and couldn't finish my meal.

We visited the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. There were only four other diners. We didn't order anything too extravagant but it took a long time to serve. Food quality was average but the portion sizes for the main course were far too big. I could barely eat half of what I was served. No surprises then at the supersize bill - over £50 for 2 starters and two main meals with 3 drinks (only one containing alcohol). Unless you like extra-large portions I would suggest that it may be worth sharing the main course rather than having one each. Either that or skip the starters. There are other Indian restaurants nearby and it may be kinder on your pocket to try these first.

Takeaway menu is overpriced not worth the extra cost the dishes that we ordered were quite tasteless maybe the chef had a off night on this particular visit, if you want a takeaway with taste and quality at a much better price try baburchee round the corner
