Owner description: The Museum of Free Derry recently re-opened its doors in the Bogside following a £2.4m redevelopment and offers a full multi-media exhibition on the civil rights and early conflict era in the city, including Battle of the Bogside, Internment, Bloody Sunday and Operation Motorman. The museum was established by the Bloody Sunday Trust in 2006 to tell the story of the civil rights movement and the creation of Free Derry in the 1960s and 1970s, and it has become an important part of Ireland’s radical and civil rights heritage. It tells the story of how a largely working class community rose up against the years of oppression it had endured. The struggle of Free Derry is part of a wider struggle in Ireland and internationally for freedom and equality for all.

Well worth a visit after you have visited the Tower Museum in Derry. This is a civil rights collection with particular focus on the Battle of The Bogside and Bloody Sunday. I found it very moving.

Small museum displaying history of Bloody Sunday. Extremely interesting and well laid out. Well worth the hour plus we spent there.

“Getting a clearer picture of Derry's past”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

It is not a big museum and although there are some exhibits and film it is mainly boards with information which you can read. The museum staff member was very friendly and helpful. You get a better understandng of the complex history of the city and the timeline of events. Alongside a look at the big murals on the gable ends it is a fairly poignant experience but you do come away feeling that there might be the beginnings of a brighter future for the city.
