Stayed at this Travelodge last week and didn't sleep all night... walls are paper thin. Shower is little more than a dribble of water. And it smells. Its cheap and central but i wouldn't stay there again.

The hotel is located on top of a bar, so if you want to go to bed early, bring ear plugs. Had we known it was located on top of a bar we would have found another location.

Knowing the rates are low because they "trim" the extras we were not surprised that shampoos, etc were not available but were shocked to hear they would charge a fee to rent an alarm clock. The towels were terribly thin and so were the walls.

VERY dissapointing.

This hotel is best suited for sports teams and college students or recent college grads. You need to be able to sleep through anything. The only ventilation available (heating was by radiator) was an open window over an extremely noisy street corner, due to the very popular bar located across the street. The location was good (close to the river and city walls) and safety was not an issue, but the ambience of the hotel was that of a hostel, or Motel 6 without decorations -- adequate for the right kind of traveler, but otherwise disappointing.

Having read the reviews on this site, we were unsure about what to expect. We needn't have worried. We found the accomodation to be clean and comfortable. Okay it wasn't 5 star, but it wasn't a 5 star price. If you want that level of accomodation, you have to pay for it. We had no problems with street noise, and there was an abundance of hot water. Only problem we had was check in staff had no knowledge of our deposit, so would advise that you take a copy of your confirmation email with you, although the receptionist did give us the benefit of the doubt. Will have no problem returning.

The location is above a busy bar and opposite a night club that has bands that start at 9 and go till the morning. To be fair the band was quiet with good soundproofing at the bar but the people queing in the streets and cars beeping their horns made for a very disturbed night.
The curtains were coming off the rails on both windowns and added a very tired uncared for look to the rooms. Ours was further noisy with an airlock formed by the fire doors creating a suction effect when they were opened and our door banging every time anyone went through.
The staff were nice the rooms clean enough but very run down and bad location for noise.

We stayed here one night and this hotel is fine for a place to stay in the evening. We were lucky enough to have a room at the back of the hotel and therefore didn't encounter the noise that some others may have. I would probably suggest when booking a room, be specific and ask for a room at the back away from the bars and pubs.

It is in a pretty good location not in the centre of Derry but definately within walking discatnce to the walled city (say 5minutes). The rooms looked a little dated and not as clean as you may expect but this place was by no means a dive. At 38 pounds I don't you can expect something modern or 5 star.

Food wise, we have problems trying to find a decent place to eat and many of the places were pubs or nightclubs. There is a Chinese Retaurant round the corner from the hotel and a pizza place that we tried - only on the basis that there appeared to be a few people eating there. It was surprisingly not that bad and had massive servings - the service was also good.

The staff were pretty friendly and helpful when queried.

Absolutely terrible do not stay here.

Stayed here from fri 2nd to sunday 4th of March for a weekend break with my girlfriend.

1. I am from Belfast in Northern Ireland and they quite controversially printed my receipt out and put my nationality as Irish which is rude and unacceptable especially as Londonderry itself is in Northern Ireland which is British as the people who live here are. This made me feel very intimidated not to mention the sinn fein election posters and people in celtic and gaelic shirts walking around the hotel and streets, making this part of Londonderry feel like you were staying up the Falls road in Belfast

2.Dont expect a good nights sleep as the beds are rock hard.

3. No hot water the morning we were leaving meaning had to boil a kettle to get washed. A problem that i see is an ongoing one reading others reviews.

4.No one seemed to take responsibility or offer money off as a gesture for the cold water had a "theres nothing we can do attitude"

5.Television wasnt working properly. Not been tuned in right so fuzzy picture. No good if you wanna watch t.v

6. All the wall lights where hanging off the wall. The one behind the bed where a headboard should be hanged down so you could not lean against the wall when laying on bed.

7. Absolutely freezing. No heating on in rooms. Rang reception the first night to get them to turn the heat on because my girlfriend was complaining to me. The secound night we just went to a restaurant and went straight under the covers to keep warm as reception did not answer phone.

8. No hairdryer in rooms, or shower gel. Just a tiny bar of soap. All standard in 99% of hotels, even the travelodge in Carrickfergus Northern Ireland.

9. First night we arrived i had to get our room changed as we where given a room with two single beds.

10. Really noisey. Bars all along that street including directly below not to mention the nightclub across the road which must have went on to 3 in the morning.

11.No parking. We had to pay around £40 parking in the multi storey a couple of doors down. Didnt open untill 12.30 on a sunday which wasnt explained at hotel reception which meant we had to sit around for 40 mins waiting to get into my car in the freezing foyer.

12. No room service at all and the restaurant looks a dive with only 3 main courses available. No breakfast included.

This is not yet a tourist city. There is a very sectarian threatening feel to the city still. Makes Belfast look like a walk in the park. Its like Belfast has moved forward to the 21st century while Londonderry is still stuck in the troubles era. Not a good place to go especially for the unionist population or for people with English or Scottish accents, or Welsh.
