“What a Dump”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013 via mobile

This establishment is well past it's sell by date.......yes folks its worn out.

The window in my room had a broken window....which had been like that for some time.
All the fixtures were in poor condition.
It was impossible to sit up in bed without banging you head on the bed light and bulb.
The central heating is not allowed to be turned on until 9PM !! So the room was bitter cold.
The 'Continental' breakfast is very poor quality in a room akin to a school hall.
The television had the sound locked down to an uncomfortable level

Parking is a problem

To sum up....avoid this establishment at all costs.

Dear Hamsden,

Thank you for your review following your recent stay at the Travelodge. I am disappointed and sorry to hear that your stay with us wasn’t how it should have been. I would like to take this time to clarify some of your issues during your stay.

We are in the process of refurbishing the hotel so fixtures and decor are being updated on an ongoing basis. I understand this may have added to your inconvenience and for this we apologize.

Regarding the central heating, we can always set the heating on at the request of the guest for their room if they notify us, and this is available at any time of the day.

I hope that you would choose to stay with us if you are ever in Derry again and we could show you a better side to our hotel.

If you would like to discuss this situation further please do not hesitate to contact us at derry@travelodge.ie

Kind regards

I booked into the travelodge as a single on september the 13??? For a one night stay....and had the worst night if my life. I got room 112 and got stuck with a broken extracter fan in the bathroom!!! It kept switching its self on and off and was making the most terrible noise(the street noise you come to expect was nothing compared to this!!!!) i didnt sleep a wink. I feel so hard done by i paid a hefty single room supplement and i deserved better than that. In the middle of the night the fan started to make hissing noises i was sure it had caught fire!!!! Faulty equipment like that is extremely dangerous. I've never had such a terrible stay in any other hotel anywhere. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

Dear Faith191,

Further to your review for the Travelodge Hotel, we appreciate your feedback and comments.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconvenience you experienced during your stay. We have had our maintenance worker look at the room in question and can reassure you that the fan is not faulty, just noisy, unfortunately. We are taking steps to replace this and improve upon the standard of that room.

I hope that you would choose to stay with us if you are ever in Derry again and we could show you a better side to our hotel.

Kind regards

Our room was very comfortable and spacious with a double and single bed. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The only bad point is that there was a strange smell in the bathroom, but that didn't bother us too much.

This is quite possibly the worst Travelodge I have ever stayed at. The staff were very welcoming and helpful but we failed to get any sleep. The windows fail to stop any noise coming in from outside, which, when the pubs kick out at 12-1am, is very loud indeed. I would only recommend this hotel if you are in Derry for the partying or pub life, certainly not for family or if you are looking for a peaceful hotel. The hotel was mostly clean but the bathroom was not up to scratch. There was what looked to be black mould in the grout between the tiles on the floor and the faint smell of ammonia...yuck. The light in the bathroom refused to work properly, giving a constant strobe effect.
Otherwise this hotel was OK, but I am afraid we will not be staying there again.
Derry is a lovely part of Ireland, plenty to see and lots of history.

Room Tip: If you're after sleep try not to get a room that overlooks the main road.

Dear Elizabeth T,

I would like to take this time to apologise for the issues you have experienced during your recent stay.

As regards the issue with the noise, due to our prime location in the city centre, we have little to no control over noise from the street below unfortunately. I understand this can be unpleasant and for this we apoligize for the disturbance caused to your night's sleep.

If you would like to contact me directly I would be delighted to discuss this issue with you further

The staff were very helpful and the hotel itself is just yards away from a supermarket, pubs, and places to restaurants/takeaways. The Peace Bridge and the City Walls are just 5 minutes walk away. Would be happy to visit again.

We needed a city location with parking for our hire car. We have used the Travelodge chain a few times during our trip around Ireland, this hotel seemed faithful to the brand with no surprises. Our room was spacious with no bad issues of around any noise or cleanliness. The pub/eatery next door was good value and could not fault the location near the river and easy access to walk on the city wall.
