My wife and I crossed New Gate while walking the Londonderry/Derry City Walls in September 2013. The New Gate is somewhat pretty (as far as gates can be) in the City Walls, but do not expect to spend much time here. An opening in the city walls was made approx. 1790, but this was made into the New Gate shortly before the United Irishmen Rising of 1798.
There is not much to see at this gate, and is merely more of a crossing while walking the Londonderry/Derry City Walls. Do not expect to take much time hanging around this site alone (the entire city walls will probably take a couple hours).
