Unusual as it is a double decker bridge. Unless bridges are your thing then it isn't all that exciting. The muddy waters of the Foyle aren't a great view.

This has been the main thoroughfare for traffic from one side of the river foyle to the other for a long long time. This historic bridge shoud be viewed, not for its current condition, but with a mind set of times gone past. Read up on the history of the bridge before visiting ,,,, that will put it into perspective.

The Craigavon Bridge is not the oldest suspension bridge nor the newest. It is no longer the tallest or the highest. Yet it remains the most visited and photographed bridge in the world. If you are able to visit the bridge, you can take a walking tour to help understand why the bridge is so compelling to so many people and why it was so difficult to build. Parking is free at the foyle valley railway museum on the east side of the bridge near the tourist information centre. Be sure to bring a camera to capture the great views and a jacket as it is always pretty brisk to very windy.

You can also ride a bike both ways. Some people ride just one way, go to spencer road, and then return to the City Side via the top deck.

There is nothing quite like the views from the Craigavon Bridge. No matter how you cross - by bike or on foot, it could be one of your top memories of your visit to Derry. Book early to avoid disappointment. I went on the first day of the month, it was beautiful.
