I don’t think that you can get a more or less clear idea what the City Walls are until you see them. This is indeed a city wall on top of which is a fairly wide pedestrian way. Climbing the walls and walking a full circle is an absolute must for a visitor! Walls are intact from ~17th century and enclose a small historic area in the city centre. From various points, the wall offers some of the best views on Derry city, including the Bogside. Along the way, there are multiple plates with descriptions of important events and history. Fine weather is, of course, an important pre-requisite to make your wall experience enjoyable and memorable.
