Went on a tour of Derry City walls with 'Martin McCrossan' walking tours. Great character who had a genuine local knowledge and passion for the walls and the troubles in Derry. Seek him uot. Only £4 a head!

You can see everything from here - got some lovely photos of the city, murals, etc. Lots of walking up and down stiars though and as the city is pretty uphill anyway it was sportive! Visit the cathedral then take a right round the walls which is the mosti interesting side.

Very well preserved and restored walls. One word of warning, the walls are a popular underage meeting/drinking location and can become rowdy, so stick to the streets at night

Great to see the city walls, they are fantastic. Derry is one of the largest walled cities in the world.

Do you like history? Do you want to understand what the history both long past and recent, of Northern Ireland, indeed, the whole of Ireland is all about? Do you find that standing at historic sites gives you a sense of time and place? Then this is a walk for you. There are three ways to do this. One is to just walk around, take in the information boards, and the views of the City. This probably works best for those like me, who have lived in this country for years, or from birth, and so have some kind of handle on things already. If you are a visitor from elsewhere, either find a friendly local to take you round, and describe what you are looking at, what it means, and how it all fits into the jigsaw of local history; or else go with an official guided tour, and have a really authentic history lesson...My only gripe about these, is that you don't get time to dawdle where you want to, but you have to move at someone else's pace. To really pick up the history here, you have to leave your prejudices behind, and let the Walls talk. they have seen the struggles that have taken place on all sides, for hundreds of years. The great thing about this City is everything is so close. So you could park the car, or arrive on a bus or train, walk the walls in the morning, go to one of many decent places to eat, and then go to the shops, a museum, or the Theatre later. I do say that food, and toilet facilities are available in the boxes below. What I mean is, that they are available nearby, because you are in a City Centre here.... City of Culture? Oh yes...So go on, see what the walls will tell you. Oh, and if you do find a friendly local to tell you the stories, go buy him a Guinness afterwards.
