Bloody Sunday Memorial

This monument is a reminder of the day when 13 people were murdered by the 1st paras, it was a peaceful march which ended in bloodshed. A 14th man died later of wounds received that day. The monument has the names of all the dead and stands very close to where they all died. Very close to the Bloody Sunday monument is the Free Derry museum, which you should visit as well to get a good idea of the battle of the Bogside, it has quite a good collection of pieces gathered during that period.

There is not much to the memorial--it's a small gated area with a statue--but the areaof town in which it's located, Bogside, is interesting to visit to see the political graffiti in the neighborhood. The Free Derry Museum is within walking distance to the memorial and I hear it's also worth a short visit (won't take more than an hour to do all of it). I would recommend a visit to this area if you're traveling through Derry.

Included in the walking tour. Very important memorial but deserves more attention to details - weeding, care of plantings, etc. seems a bit neglected and deserves to be pristinely kept.

A reminder that truth prevails and how lucky we are that these days are becoming a memory rather than the norm for this troubled city

A visit to the bogside district to see the monument, and the murals is a highlight of a stay in derry. Difficult to experience and to see the realities of where that violence took place only too recently but beautiful to see the triumph of peace in the face of conflict and to remember the victims of the troubles.
