we visited the grill room on the 2nd floor of the custom house restaurant recently, shortly after it opened. It is a separate kitchen and restaurant from those on the ground and first floors.

firstly, the place looks great, very opulent decor but not pretentious and the kitchen is open plan so you can see the food being cooked. there is an Argentinian grill for cooking the steaks and the smell from the meat cooking on this would give anyone an appetite.

we got 2 starters of salt & chilli squid and chicken wings, both were absolutely delicious. the waiter later told me that the chef has got his own smoker for slow cooking meat like the chicken wings, it obviously is works well.

for the main courses we just had to go for steaks cooked on the flame grill, there is a great selection of different steaks and you can get them either on the bone or off the bone. good selection of sauces to go with them also. i went for the sirloin on the bone and it was superb. by the way the side dish of fried onions was also delicious.

the Argentinian malbec wine that we got with the meal went perfectly with the steak

i also have to mention the value, considering the surroundings, the quality of the food and the overall experience, the price is very reasonable. the only thing that was on the expensive side was the wine, but because the food was so reasonable it wasnt too bad.

service was also friendly and helpful

the only slight downside of the meal was that my partner's fillet steak on the bone didn't have as much meat on it as we might have expected, though it was very tender. my sirloin was definitely a better choice for a hungry diner.

i will definitely be back, i think i will make a point of passing through the city more often just to visit this place. definitely worth a try

This is a supplier of excellent food, in exceptional surroundings. Ginger haired waitress (kim) upstairs worth her weight in gold. Superb sailswoman for the chefs increddible food.
Bit surprised the bill was 50 pound higher than it should have been, checked it a second time and it was incorrect agin! again over charged. no suggestion of wrong doing think it as a till error.
Maitre D a tad sharp, but overal a good experience

My son and I were recommended there by our hotel hostess. The food and service were outstanding. The beer was fresh, and the side salads were very crisp. I would recommend getting a reservation early, as we had to wait 30 minutes for an available table.

We were recommended to try this restaurant by a local following an amazing walking tour of Derry's walls, lovely ambience, friendly staff, beautiful views over the river Foyle and really tasty food at a reasonable cost.

First time ever visit to Northern Ireland. After splendid day at Giant's Causeway- we managed to walk in off the street about 6.45 pm and order the early evening menu.We had been told it was the best food in Derry and it was just sublime! 2 courses for £16.00 and we chose the following: Selection of Homemade Breads, butter, dips, oils( we shared this one)
Crispy Co. Antrim Pork Belly, cauliflower, seasonal greens, pickled radish, beets, cumin (my main) & Beer Battered Greencastle Haddock, peas, tartar sauce-(sister's main)
Sticky Toffee Pudding, homemade ice cream (I ate all of it even though they gave us 2 spoons)
Please give this a go- you don't know what you have been missing! But really all I wanted to do here was praise the Chef .p.s The bread (made on the premises)in itself was amazing!
