we visited the grill room on the 2nd floor of the custom house restaurant recently, shortly after it opened. It is a separate kitchen and restaurant from those on the ground and first floors.
firstly, the place looks great, very opulent decor but not pretentious and the kitchen is open plan so you can see the food being cooked. there is an Argentinian grill for cooking the steaks and the smell from the meat cooking on this would give anyone an appetite.
we got 2 starters of salt & chilli squid and chicken wings, both were absolutely delicious. the waiter later told me that the chef has got his own smoker for slow cooking meat like the chicken wings, it obviously is works well.
for the main courses we just had to go for steaks cooked on the flame grill, there is a great selection of different steaks and you can get them either on the bone or off the bone. good selection of sauces to go with them also. i went for the sirloin on the bone and it was superb. by the way the side dish of fried onions was also delicious.
the Argentinian malbec wine that we got with the meal went perfectly with the steak
i also have to mention the value, considering the surroundings, the quality of the food and the overall experience, the price is very reasonable. the only thing that was on the expensive side was the wine, but because the food was so reasonable it wasnt too bad.
service was also friendly and helpful
the only slight downside of the meal was that my partner's fillet steak on the bone didn't have as much meat on it as we might have expected, though it was very tender. my sirloin was definitely a better choice for a hungry diner.
i will definitely be back, i think i will make a point of passing through the city more often just to visit this place. definitely worth a try
