Stayed at this hotel for a friends wedding and had been under the impression that this was one of the best hotels in N Ireland. It's not! Whilst the staff were very friendly and rooms clean the facilities and food were not of a high standard. Bath towels are hand towels and hand towels are washroom towels. Great if one is 2 ft tall but no good for anyone over 6ft. Our en-suite had one of the worst showers I've ever seen and gave out small quantities of luke warm water.
Teas and coffee are dreadful - not sure the tea actually gets a look at a tea bag and the coffee is over stewed. Breakfast was okay on day one but on day 2 when I asked for bacon (none left) I was told the chef would make some more. 15 minutes later I was handed cold left over bacon - I know what freshly cooked bacon looks like!!!
The building obviously needs some serious repair work especially the porch. Some of the brick was coming away from the wall and could have fallen on someone sitting beneath it.
Overheard staff saying that this was a dreadful place to work , but they'd get used to it!! Not good. As we foolishly didn't ask how much the rooms would be we were surprised at how expensive it was. We thought £60 per room per night was probably about right but it worked out at double that. Not worth it and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is used to a good standard of hotel.

Apparently one of the best hotels around Derry, but with a very mixed standard of customer service. A positive welcome despite our early arrival and quite a nice room overlooking the function marquee - a bit worrying, that, but that evening the revellers were quite restrained and I got a good night's sleep. This quirky old building has charm and heritage despite some really shoddy plastic windows and the antique furniture here and there is ok if you like that kind of thing. TV reception was poor, unwatchable on some channels and few were available, which you don't expect for 4 star. Dinner was pleasant and it was nice to have a choice as a vegetarian - so many places offer 'the vegetarian option', ie no choice at all! Service was good which made the breakfast service all the more of a let down. Only the one waitress who clearly felt she had better things to do than serve us - the only people in the restaurant. She got the orders wrong and didn't bring the things she forgot when asked - an off hand 'yeah yeah' and off she wafted.
A nice place which just needs to tighten up a bit on customer service and maintenance.

Set in its own substantial grounds, The Beech House Hotel is a hidden gem worth going out of your way to discover. After a long car journey from Dublin we were immediately drawn into this country house hotel's relaxing and historic atmosphere. On our arrival we were pleasantly surprised by our surroundings. The staff could not have been kinder and within ten minutes we were installed in our room which was at the front of the hotel, near the entrance, which ensured our dog had almost access to the grounds. The room itself was cosy and comfortable with a generous sized well-equiped bathroom. After our long journey we decided to have an unwinding drink in the bar before exploring the hotel. One of the rooms has a photographic record of the history of the hotel which played a part in welcoming the American army during the Second World War. Among the pictures were some famous faces: President John F Kennedy and his brother Robert, who stayed there; John Hume, one of the key figures in the peace process, among many others. Outside, in the hotel grounds, we discovered shaded paths, an old mill and a small lake teeming with fish. After a brisk walk we adjourned to the bar to sample the food and this proved to be above average, as did the dinner in the restaurant later that evening. The following morning we had the beautiful buffet breakfast which kept us going throughout the day. From memory there was a choice of cereal, juice, toast, eggs, bacon, sausages and local black pudding, tea, coffee. After that it was a short trip into the historic Derry city and a tour of the famous walls before a bit of shopping. Then it was back to the hotel again for the wedding of my niece where the hotel really came into its own. Patsy, one of the owners, and her staff, couldnt have been kinder to the bride, groom and guests and worked tirelessly throughout the morning to set up one of the most romantic weddings I have ever been. It took place under an enormous beech tree (I think, not too good on trees) with the guests sitting in a ring around the happy couple. After that it was drinks on the lawn and then back to the hotel restaurant for a beautiful meal followed by music in the amazing marquee to the side of the hotel. All and all a wonderful experience - and here's the thing - the total cost for a couple for two nights bed and breakfast and an evening meal plus a bar tab and a lunch came to £270 sterling! And remember, this is a four star hotel. I will definitely be back and would encourage anybody to try this for themselves. Also in the immediate area, but which we unfortunately hadnt got time to get around to, were wonderful parks and scenic drives. Next time we intend to explore Donegal and more of the environs of Derry.

Our stay was fabulous. The room was very spacious, with a king size bed, a comfortable seating area overlooking the lawns and a good, clean bathroom.
There was a wedding taking place when we arrived, but despite the staff being very busy, we were taken care of. The evening meal was of a very high standard and tasted great from the first mouthful to the last. I enjoyed every course and there wasn't anything I didn't like (there often is something!) Loved the different types of bread served with the starter. The portions were just right. It was so difficult to choose a sweet - I wanted them all! Chose the apple crumble and it was wonderful.
Breakfast the next morning was good. There was lots of choice and the hot breakfast was hot - so often in hotels with buffet breakfast it's often luke warm, but not at this hotel.
The staff were really helpful and attentive when needed. The receptionist was helpful when we enquired about going into Derry for the evening and ordered our taxi, and she was welcoming when we arrived back in the early hours of the morning.
It really felt like we were a guest in someone's home, a large country home! rather than one of many in a modern hotel.
I can't wait to go back to Derry and would certainly stay here again. Friends from Derry recommended this hotel and I'm so glad they did.

I stayed for a night as I was working in Derry. I found the staff and service excellent. Room was spacious and very clean. Good selection for breakfast. The hotel has real character and charm about it which many modern chain hotels lack. The setting is beautiful, with gardens around it.
