“Nice Cakes”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

We had lunch here and found it to be a very nice Cafe. We just found it while wandering around Derry and decided to give it a try. The Cafe has a nice relaxing atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The food and cakes were very nice and the Coffee was good too. Would come back here again.

“Could be better ....”

The food may be delicious here but seriously the staff don't do the premises any favours .
Please make your customers feel welcome . We certainly were not .

“Has a kind of world travelled backpacker feel! Like the nice restaraunt you'd treat yourself to on your travels.”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Went here yesterday having been recommended by a friend. Loved the relaxed and welcoming surroundings and the quirky staff. All of the food seemed fresh and had that home baked feel. Didn't have much to eat, just a nice vanilla scone and coffee but a good first impression means i'll definately return for dinner. It's so nice to see the craft village in Derry being used correctly and i'm sure Cafe Del Mondo will be an even bigger hit come the summer time when people can eat outside in some of the the nicest surroundings in the town. Cool music, great staff and and fantastic chilled atmosphere...

“Lovely cafe but two negative experiences.”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

I visited this cafe for lunch with my boyfriend after reading plenty of good reviews on here. The atmosphere was pleasant but when my tea arrived at the table, the cup was clearly unwashed. When I asked for a replacement, the next cup wasn't much better. But still, the food was lovely and the staff were friendly enough.

Not to be put off, we returned a few days later. My boyfriend ordered a scone and halfway through eating it, we noticed a long dark hair seemed to have been baked into the middle of it. He didn't bother finishing it. I don't think we will be going back to Cafe del Mondo on our next trip to Derry, there are a few new cafes that have opened due to City of Culture which we might try instead, which is a shame because we really liked the food and the ambience of the Craft Village.

“Great place, but expensive for what you get.”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

I went to Cafe del Mondo expecting a lot. I had had it recommended to me, and I had already had a delicious lunch in there. I was, unfortunately, somewhat disappointed.
The evening began nicely, with a great atmosphere and pleasant staff. It soon, however, became clear that the staff were a little unprofessional. They were pleasant throughout, but vaguely pushy, and at times almost aggressive in their familiarity.
Main courses were nice, but nothing to write home about. The fillet steak was deliciously tender, and went excellently with the shallot puree, but the ball of what appeared to be stuffing was unnecessary. The chips were perfect, as were the boiled potatoes. The duck was delicious, but there was too much duck and very little to accompany it (a complaint which could easily be levelled at the steak as well). All in all, good food, but not really worth the considerable expense.
I'm almost tempted to give a separate review for the dessert. Quite possibly the nicest dessert in Derry, this was a fantastic way to conclude the evening. We both had the chocolate and Grand Marnier torte, and it was really excellent. The chocolate was thick, the orange subtle, and the raspberries delightful. It was also very reasonably priced, surprisingly.
Overall, then, a nice meal and a nice evening, but a little overpriced, with unexciting meat dishes.
