My girlfriend and I stayed at Caw Cottage during the first week of December and we would not hesitate to stay again. Jim and Dee are exceptionally good hosts - friendly, caring, concerned to our well being and lovely to be with. Our room was very clean, warm and comfortable (so important during the cold and wet wintery nights in Northern Ireland). The breakfasts provided were superb with a mix of fresh fruit, cereals and a full Irish breakfast with all the trimings. Dee also makes her own bread which is amazingly good and in ample supply during breakfast times (or, it appears at any time!). Their attention to helping us relax and feel welcome was second-to-none. I would full commend this B&B to anyone wishing to visit and stay for a while in Derry or the surrounding area. We look forward to returning ourselves next year (if possible during the 2013 City of Culture - they seem to be filling up fast!) and to seeing Jim and Dee again! :-)

We arrived at Caw Cottage 3 hours before check-in and were pleasantly greeted with the warmest hospitality from Dympna (Dee). We were welcomed inside Caw Cottage - warm, homely, welcoming with a very family orientated environment. Dee supplied us with choices for hot and cold beverages, as we accepted Dee pointed us into the direction of the lounge. Again, pleasantly surprised. The décor, one of a kind. The lounge, with an abundant number of photos depicting family history, books and old records providing the room with its unique character. On the book shelf, a book written by Dee's father detailing the history of Derry. Large windows at the rear of the lounge granted us views of a rustic garden and terrace with outdoor suit available. Shortly after sinking into the huge cosy sofas, Dee appeared with tray in hand – a pot of green tea for myself, a pot of coffee for my boyfriend and a tin filled with yummy chocolate biscuits! Perfect.

After our warm drinks, biscuits and a nice intro of ourselves to one another, and other necessities Dee took us to our double en-suite room. Lovely and very clean. Exhausted from our trip we decided to take a lazy nap. Up , energised and raring to go we wrapped up and made our way downstairs where we were again pleasantly surprised. The warm glow of candles aligned the staircase. Greeted by both Dee and Jim, Jim introduced himself and we explained we were heading out into town. With their great generosity, Dee offered to drive us into town – and it was lovely. Dee provided us with a tour of historical knowledge and information about Derry.

In the morning Dee had made us a lovely traditional Irish breakfast, it was delicious. It was such as shame we only stayed one night as we would have enjoyed staying longer. We fell in love with the city of Derry and that was partly because of our great hosts and their amazing hospitality.

Thanks Dee and Jim D&L

Caw Cottage is a great place to stay as a base for touring the Derry area - we regret not staying there longer than a night. It's a lovely place, where Jim and Dee are welcoming and helpful. The room is great and there's an outstanding breakfast - Dee really pulls out all the stops in her full Irish breakfast. It was also great to get a good guide on where to go in Derry and the taxi fare to the centre is insanely cheap. When Jim offers to take you to the best lookout in Derry, take him up on the offer - it's a must see. One day we will be back.

Quite unexpectedly we had to spend a night in Derry and our friend's mum could not put us up. At very short notice, this couple, the owners of Caw Cottage, and friend's our friend's mum, took us in and, due to the special circumstances, offered us a discount for a double-room.
Everything in Caw Cottage is superb: It is clean, spacious, warm, well furnished, with an excellent location, and the owners are incredibly welcoming and friendly. Jim gave us discount vouchers for taxis to and from the B&B so transport was truly a bargain. The night we stayed there we came back to find a jug of water and slices of orange waiting for us at our door.
The breakfast is to die for and super abundant; neither of us could finish our dish. Mrs. G. bakes her own soda bread every morning, and because my partner said it reminded of his nan's home made bread, she packed a "doggy bag" for us and even shared her secret recipe.
Once we had finished our breakfast, Jim offered to treat us to a scenic view of Derry from a hill. It was a-ma-zing! I definitely recommend this B&B... I know I will be staying there next time I'm over in Norther Ireland.

If you want to learn about Derry city while enjoying wonderful food and service, stay here! Jim and Dympna will treat you like family, anticipating your every need and then some. They go above and beyone (Jim drove us out to his favorite spot to overlook the entire city). They are ambassadors for Derry -they have lived through the Troubles and are happy to share their ecxperiences as well as their hopes for a bright future for Derry. This was our first B&B on our trip to Ireland and while we stayed in a string of great B&Bs, this one is in a class of its own.

We picked this B&B because of the positive reviews on tripadvisor and found that they were absolutely justified. Jim and Dympna were fabulous hosts. They were an absolute delight with our two year old daughter, even to the point of singing her to sleep one night! My little girl has been asking for them ever since. Her parents (i.e. us!) enjoyed the stay too as the room was cosy and the breakfasts were delicious. Thanks J & D for making our trip to Derry so special. We'll be back!!!!!
