I stayed here on New Years Eve 2013 for one night. I booked the restaurant which is a very nice setting, large and open and the food was very very nice. There is the Snug Bar which is a nice setting with a fire for a quiet drink. The only downside to the stay was the room which is 10 to 15 years out of date although clean and tidy. The bed was very uncomfortable. Reading other reviews I can see that rooms have been renovated and it one of them can be booked even better. It is located at the Foyle Bridge which is a few miles from the city centre but I had not planned on going into town, just using the facilities of the hotel and was impressed with the restaurant. The cost of the stay was £90 booked through booking.com. Would I stay again? yes I probably would but would be asking for a nicer room but if I could get a cheaper room or same price nearer the city centre I would probably choose that. Also the breakfast the next day was pretty good and for £45 per head with breakfast its not bad value. If there was a swimming pool or fitness centre I didnt see it. There was a wedding on at the hotel but appeared to be in a seperate area of the hotel.

Room Tip: when booking ask for an updated room!

We recently stayed in the Waterfoot Hotel in Derry for a weekend break. The hotel is a little out of town but it offers a service with one of the local taxi companies and provides guests with vouchers for their trip into the city centre. A taxi back to the hotel is only about £4.
The rooms are really big, very clean, warm and pleasantly furnished (though the décor is a little older and tired). We dined in the hotel restaurant on the Friday evening. The food was fantastic. The only thing I didn't like was sitting on a stool at a high table but I am being a little picky with this one. The service was very friendly but lacked the attention to detail that would have made the experience really great. This was a consistent theme. All the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay but the attention to detail that makes a good hotel stand out from others was evidently missing. A nice place and we would not be put off from staying here again but with a little management focus and staff training the whole experience could be better for the customer.

We stayed here for a night away in Derry. It is a little bit out of the city but the hotel paid for our taxi into town and return taxi was only £3.

The hotel has been renovated but not all rooms are done yet. Ours wasn't and the bathroom was pretty dire to be honest. This is the only reason I took one star off my rating.

What made the stay was the staff, so very helpful and very friendly. Couldn't do enough for us.

We stopped into the Snug bar when we came back from town in the evening. There was live music and a roaring fire and atmosphere was great.

My husband and I booked this hotel through Venere.com and it was advertised as having a swimming pool which swayed us to choose this hotel over others in the city centre. Upon arrival in our room we were very disappointed in the shabby decor and the very dated bathroom. A shower over the bath from the taps, shabby delapidated tiled floor. My husband then tried to run the bath (we had both come straight from work) and was alarmed to find no hot water coming through the bath taps. We reported this to reception and a very helpful and apologetic maintenance man checked this out and informed us we have to be re-roomed.......to our great pleasure I might add! We asked him about the swimming pool and he informed us that this had been turned into a wedding venue some time ago.

The room allocated to us was of a better standard than the first.....begging the question why the hotel felt fit to allocate sub-standard room at all. The decor and furnishings definitely need updating. The wall lamps over the dressing table were secured by electrical tape and the heat in the room was immense making it very hard to sleep even with the radiators off and the windows open. The bathroom was of a much better standard this time....more in keeping with what we would normally expect for this price range.

Overall, we found the hotel to be lacking in character and warmth. It appears to function mainly as a restaurant and wedding venue/nightclub venue. We are not "Victor Meldrews" but given the money we paid, we felt very disappointed. In future, we will be ensuring we check out the hotel website to ensure booking agents such as Venere have their listings and photos up to date. I would not recommend.

Room Tip: Avoid unless you are really only looking for a place to lay your head.

We stayed here to meet up with friends for a weekend away. It was the last hotel we could actually get a room in for the dates we wanted as the city was full to capacity! The only room they could offer us (newly wedded couple), Was a twin room with 2 single beds. We had to take it but asked on booking if a double came up could they switch us.
On check in we were pleasantly surprised as they had remembered our request and got us a double on cancellation. Our room was very spacious and very clean. Bathroom was a good size too and had everything we needed.
The only thing that I can fault is there is no air conditioning or heat control and the room was very warm, but it was nice to be able to open a window, something that I don't like about newly built hotels. Tv was also on the small side, as its on the other side of the room from the bed, but these are not criticisms worth not staying here for. There was a few functions on in the hotel throughout our stay and the place was buzzing. Even though it was very busy, service to us and our requests were met with a smile and very quickly.
Breakfast was smashing too, cant complain at all as i see a few others have, it totally set us up for the day!
Rates were also very reasonable too, and ample parking in the grounds. We aren't the best with directions either, but found the hotel very easy to get too. Next time were back in the city we will definitely be checkin in at the waterfoot! Thank you for a lovely weekend with very pleasant and helpful staff.

Have been going to the Waterfoot now for about 4 years every Halloween and New Year, when we arrived at Halloween was very disappointed that a member of staff called Maria had left, she was excellent at her job, done everything and more that you could have asked off someone, place just didn't seem the same without her. Then we got another blow when the most pleasant and helpful receptionist Niamh told us the fantastic news for her that see was having a baby and probably would be off on maternity at New Year....Will miss these two excellent members off staff that the Waterfoot has, although from the cleaners to the reception staff they are all very pleasant.
Another thing I would say if you are going for a quiet weekend, you will not get it, because there is always a wedding on and the music just blasts round the whole hotel until 1am....other then that a fab place for food.
