“Excellent B&B just out of the main town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

This B&B on the outskirts of Newcastle was the perfect place to stay near the town. Very quiet and friendly with a lovely, clean double room. The breakfast was outstanding - as much food as you could eat and really well cooked! The B&B itself is a short walk out of Newcastle town and is served by a well-lit footpath (the walk into town took about 35 minutes). A taxi from the main town cost £3 one-way.

Room Tip: We took the room with the private bathroom - very good.

We stayed here last night and cannot fault it. As soon as you enter the building, it's warm, inviting and welcoming. Rosie and Peter are fantastic and cannot do enough for you. We stayed in a family room, which was more than accommodating and the views were just breathtaking. The breakfast was excellent too.

I travel to Northern Ireland every couple of weeks and have stayed in some excellent hotels and bed and breakfast but St Patrick's Stream is one of the best. Rosie and Peter made us feel welcome and we will definitely be back here.

A lovely, modern house but built in keeping with its surroundings. Built just above the main Kilkeel Road and overlooking the Bay. At the back is the hillside leading up to Slieve Donard.
My room was very smart, clean and well furnished. The bathroom was immediately next door and full sized ( so I could choose bath or shower). Being in a loft conversion, my room had large skylight windows on both sides so I could look out on to the bay (across to St Johns Point) or on to the mountainside.
The Breakfast room is very smart. The breakfast - a legendary 'Ulster Fry' - really did set me up for the day. I climbed Slieve Donard fueled by it ! There are lighter options but the full breakfast is firmly recommended !
St Patricks Stream is about a mile south of Newcastle centre. Its a pleasant walk although there are buses and taxi's should you need them. It is very handy should you be climbing Slieve Donard. Follow the Kilkeel Road south for about half a mile and you'll come to the Bloody Bridge, from where you can begin your ascent. Do be wary, though, that the road has no footway.

The hosts - Rosemarie and Peter - could not be more welcoming. This is a lovely, underrated part of Ireland and is easily accessible from Belfast both by car and public transport.

Thoroughly recommended !!!
