“The best hotel staff I've ever experienced! Loved the Burrendale!”
Reviewed September 21, 2009

My boyfriend and I stayed here as a birthday treat last week with my sister and her husband. I was thoroughly impressed by the Burrendale and its amazing staff. The staff (especially Claire, Joanna and the night porter) are magnificently trained. They cater to your every need in a throughly efficient and friendly manner but are never supercilious or fawning. The food was excellent - breakfasts amazing and 4 course evening meal to die for. My boyfriend loved the pool, jacuzzi and steam rooms/saunas.

The bar was reasonably priced (as were the beauty treatments in the spa) and the atmosphere was just lovely. So relaxing and cozy. Yes, the rooms are a little dated compared with recently refurbished hotels like Benedicts and the Fitzwilliam in Belfast but I can have a flat screen plasma and funky wallpaper at home - I go away to relax and enjoy first class service and excellent food, both of which the Burrendale delivers in spades.

The staff were so lovely they even gave my boyfriend a complimentary slice of chocolate cake complete with candle (and a box of matches to light it) to present with at the stroke of midnight on my birthday! We had a slight problem the first night with a noisy air conditioning unit on the roof above our room (we were in a thrid floor Ambassador room) and the staff worked tirelessly to rectify this - they had a man on the roof half the next day sorting it out and were more than apologetic, offering complimentary drinks etc.

The views of the Mourne mountains from our room were amazing and my boyfriend loved the jacuzzi airbath in the room! We will definitely go back!

Just back from an overnight stay at the Burrendale. Overall impression is that it is a bit dated. Our room was large but cold, we asked for the heat to be turned on as there are no controls in the room to do this ourselves. The noise in our room from the leisure centre was horrific, something like a jumbo jet landing nearby. We were assured that this would go off, eventually, and it did, when the leisure centre closed!!. Back on again in the morning when the centre opened again.
The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. The food was average enough, nice and hot though which I like.
I wouldn't return as after talking to another couple attending a function who were staying at the Slieve Donard and paying £35 less than we were I realised that we had been done price wise.
Alter your prices to suit your tired rooms. Mend the ripped curtains in the bedroom, take the masking tape off the window in the bathroom, clean the stains off the chair in the bedroom. Take the hair out of the shower as it overflowed with water not being able to drain away and finally install a lift which isn't three days camel ride away from the reception to take you to your room. Then charge your prices!!

We had a good couple of nights at the Burrendale. Our room was fine, although the furniture is a little tired now but still has everything you need. Our only real issue with the room was the heating; no control over it and it was very noisey when the heating came on - at 4.15am both mornings.
The bathroom was very well finished, with good quality fittings and a good shower. The only issue we had was the shelf over the sink was in the way when washing your face, shaving etc. Both rooms were very clean and housekeeping was excellent both days.
Breakfast was good both mornings. We also ate in the resturant on the first night and the food was delicious.
We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful, particularly the girls at reception.
The hotel allows guests full use of the Country Club and Spa which is excellent.
Overall we would probably say that the quality of the room doesn't match the standard room rate, especially given the local competition. But if you can get a reduced rate then it's worth it!

The rooms were clean and there was tea and coffee making facliities plus biscuit . The Food good and there was good entertainment on Saturday night. Could not find any fault and would go back again.

Went for a weekend break for a birthday. Two couples in their late 20's , literally met the other couple comming back out the doors of the hotel saying they were not staying here. Ever the optomist we checked in and went to our room. Disgrace for £120 for one night!!
Room was very basic and shabby, We spoke to the cleaner who asked what we had paid and even she laughed and stated " Thats rediculous for this hotel/room" we will NEVER be back.
Called the Slieve Donard hotel close by, 5* £10 cheaper that the Burrendale and absolute luxury. So do yourself a favour and book the Slieve Donard your wasting your money in this place

Very good spacious, airy, light and comfortable room. Service at the bar was excellent.. Food choices very good and breakfast was well presented with plenty of choice. Good leisure facilities. On the down side the staff at breakfast seemed intent on clearing tables rather than looking after customers--we had to ask for tea and toast on two out of the three mornings.Only once were we asked. Think this must be the way the staff have been told to operate. Bar was good but had children in it on two of the nights--including a 3 year old sat on a bar stool at the bar after 10.00p.m.!

Myself and my husband stayed here for our first wedding anniversary in June. The girl on reception upgraded us to a suite because of this (although the bigger rooms are almost nicer - our suite was more like an apartment, not as cosy). The hotel lounge were serving free tea and short-cake biscuits topped with fresh strawberries. The dinner that night was delicious and the little bar there is really cosy and like an authentic country bar. On the day we arrived we had a lovely swim, sat in the jacuzzi and then I got my hair blow-dried (for only £17! - good for hotel prices). This hotel really was great value for money and the staff we're lovely. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.
